This week, we’re joining forces to make a stand against bullying as we observe National Anti-Bullying Week from November 13th to 17th. Our focus is aligned with the Anti-Bullying Alliance’s theme, ‘Make a noise about bullying,’ encouraging open discussions and collective efforts to prevent bullying.
Mr. D Inman, Assistant Headteacher, kicked off our assembly with a deep dive into the definition of bullying and why this week holds such significance. Shockingly, statistics from the Anti-Bullying Alliance reveal that 30% of young people experienced bullying in the last year, and approximately one pupil in every classroom faces bullying daily. Together, we aim to diminish these numbers.
Bullying has far-reaching effects, including poor mental health, increased feelings of loneliness and isolation, and a loss of interest in previously enjoyed activities. By understanding these consequences, we hope to foster empathy and encourage everyone to ‘make a noise’ in support of those who need it.
Our assemblies also highlight external support resources, such as Childline, Gov.uk, Young Minds, and NSPCC. Additionally, we emphasise the in-school support available for all pupils. Together, we can make a difference.
Mr. D Inman stressed the importance of respect towards each other, stating, “Bullying has no place in our school. Let’s unite, make a noise, and create an environment where every individual feels valued and safe.”
Let’s stand together, raise awareness, and actively contribute to a bully-free environment. Remember, kindness costs nothing, but its impact is immeasurable.
