Pupil Premium
Introduced in April 2011, the Pupil Premium is a government initiative that provides additional funding to support eligible students, with the aim of helping them to achieve their full potential.
Schools receive a set amount of funding for each student who meets one or more of the following criteria:
- Currently eligible for ‘targeted’ free school meals (FSM) or have been eligible at any point during the last six years (known as Ever 6 FSM). For further information on FSM, please see: https://chaseterraceacademy.co.uk/school-life/free-school-meals/
- Previously looked after by a local authority or other state care arrangements, including children adopted from care or from equivalent care arrangements outside England and Wales
In addition, schools may receive a Service Pupil Premium for children from service families, for example where a parent is serving in the regular armed forces.
Objectives
- Although Pupil Premium funding is not ring-fenced, Chase Terrace Academy is committed to ensuring that it is used effectively to benefit the students it is intended to support, making a meaningful difference to their education and wider experiences.
- The funding is used to provide targeted educational support and enrichment activities aimed at improving progress and raising aspirations.
- It also supports efforts to narrow attainment gaps and address any underlying inequalities between students eligible for Pupil Premium and their peers.
Pupil Premium Strategy
The school continually develops and refines strategies and interventions to improve the progress and attainment of Pupil Premium students. Both national research and the school’s own data are used to identify barriers to learning and achievement, as well as the most effective approaches to overcome them.
