Behaviour and the use of electronic devices
Our high expectations are strengthened by the positive environment created by staff and students, where achievements are regularly recognised and celebrated.
Every student deserves a positive learning experience. When behaviour disrupts this, appropriate interventions or sanctions may be applied. Respect for all is a core value at CTA.
To maintain a focused, distraction‑free environment and support students’ wellbeing, we operate a phone‑free policy.
Students in Key Stages 3 and 4 lock their mobile phones and smart devices into a Yondr pouch on entry to school in the morning and keep them in their bags throughout the day. Pouches are unlocked as students leave school. If your child needs to contact you, they can do so via their Progress Teams.
As detailed in the school’s Behaviour Procedure to support the positive conduct of behaviour in and around the school we have set out some key expectations for pupils and staff built around ‘Respect the CTA Way’.
Punctuality and attendance
Pupils are expected to be in Personal Development lessons at 08:30am. We regularly run our ‘H82BL8’ (hate to be late) campaign to support pupils in positively engaging in all lessons and aspects of school. Punctuality is key to our pupil’s enjoyment and success at school.
At Chase Terrace Academy, we believe that regular school attendance plays a vital role in helping your child make the most of everything we have to offer, both in and out of the classroom, for several reasons:
- Learning and Progress – Each school day gives students the chance to learn, grow and build on their knowledge. Even short periods of absence can lead to gaps in understanding, making it harder to keep up academically and personally.
- Building Positive Habits – Attending school every day helps students develop strong routines, responsibility and key life skills such as resilience and problem‑solving. Being consistently part of the school community builds confidence and supports long‑term success.
- Support and Wellbeing – We are committed to supporting every student’s wellbeing and academic journey. By attending regularly, students can fully access the support, resources and opportunities available to help them thrive.
- Friendships and Social Skills – School is more than just lessons – it’s also where young people make friends, learn to work with others, and grow socially. Regular attendance helps students stay connected with peers and staff, and ensures they don’t miss out on these important experiences.
Classroom Expectations
Pupils:
- Enter lessons calmly and on time, ready to learn;
- Respond calmly to instructions and to do as they are asked by adults in school first time and without challenge;
- Engage in learning, take pride in their work and try their best at all times;
- Are polite and considerate to all; they respect each other and the environment;
- Do not leave a lesson without permission – this will be considered truancy, a serious and significant issue;
- Have the correct equipment, as indicated in the equipment list.
WE BELIEVE ALL PUPILS CAN DO THIS – EVERY DAY
Outside the Classroom
Pupils:
- Respect the CTA Way and behave accordingly;
- Respond calmly to instructions and to do as they are asked by adults in school first time and without challenge;
- Respect the CTA environment;
- Move around CTA calmly and with consideration for the safety of others;
- Be kind, polite and considerate to everyone;
- Eat only in appropriate areas (not eating or drinking is allowed in toilets).

Examples of these expectations are as follows: –
- Excellent attendance;
- Arrive at school and to lessons on time;
- Enter the classrooms quietly;
- Wear uniform correctly, including on the way to and from Academy, as indicated in the Uniform Policy;
- Pupils sit where you are told to sit by the teacher or any other member of staff;
- Have all equipment and books required for lessons;
- Follow classroom rules and procedures and not disrupt the learning of other pupils;
- Follow instructions given by staff and other adults without arguing;
- Listen attentively to the teacher who will explain the lesson, what you are going to do, why and how;
- Put up your hand to indicate you wish to speak unless directed otherwise;
- Use appropriate language;
- Listen and value others’ ideas, contributions and work co-operatively;
- Care for the classroom and resources, respecting others’ property;
- Lead by example, being a good role model for younger pupils at CTA;
- Accept responsibility for your behaviour and our “No Excuses Culture”;
- Be considerate of the needs of all the other people in the classroom;
- Use ICT in accordance with our acceptable user policy);
- Behave appropriately when outside of the school.
