Congratulations to Charlie W, Year 8, for his outstanding contribution to Anti-Bullying Week!

In a special assembly dedicated to spreading awareness and understanding during Anti-Bullying Week, Charlie had the honour of sharing his thought-provoking poem about the significance of wearing and respecting school ties.

Miss J Devereux, Assistant Headteacher, expressed her pride, stating, “Charlie exemplifies the core school value of respect by embracing this week’s Anti-Bullying message: ‘make a noise about bullying.’ His poem educated his peers on the importance of wearing a school tie, reinforcing the sense of unity and pride it brings to our school community. We are immensely proud of him.”

Charlie’s poem not only emphasises the aesthetic aspect of the tie but also delves into its symbolic representation of Houses and the school as a whole. His words serve as a reminder that the tie is more than just an accessory; it’s a shared emblem of identity and unity.

What do you think a tie is?

What do you associate with the word tie?

Well, I think a tie is:

Something to be clipped onto the top of your shirt,

Sitting neatly under your collar.

Your tie represents your House,

It represents your school as a whole.

It can also look smart,

But only if you wear it in the right way.

Some people might think,

It can be used as a weapon or a fidget,

Whether that’s hitting someone with it or,

Taking it apart in lessons or throwing it around.

This isn’t clever at all!

A tie is an item of clothing,

To be clipped to the top button of your shirt,

Sitting neatly under your collar,

And it’s mine, not yours!
