Our Year 12 Criminology pupils have started a new year 13 Unit “Crime Scene to Courtroom” where pupils discover the key personnel involved in investigation, what investigative techniques are used alongside analysis of these, looking into types of evidence and how they are used, and follow the chronology of events towards prosecution of suspect/s.
Miss M Turner, Teacher of Criminology, said: “I believe that hands on experience is paramount to understanding and the learning process. Allowing pupils to discuss the possibilities enables them to talk about their learning so far and helps them to see the need for the content that we cover in Criminology.”
The pupils were split into two groups to encourage them to work collaboratively as a team, which is the norm for crime based careers, in order to use evidence to solve the “Murder in Miami” and “Murder in the Move Theatre”. Following investigations, pupils will then present their findings to the class and talk through their decisions and thoughts. Pupils will then be put under review and will discuss some of the strengths and weaknesses of the evidence that they have dealt with and how this could impact the investigation.
