Yesterday, our Year 9 students welcomed visitors from Staffordshire Police – Fiaz, Chelsea and Deb – who delivered an informative session on careers in policing.
Students explored a wide range of roles within the police force, including Special Constables, PCSOs, forensics, armed response, control room and call centre roles, road crime, and many more. The officers provided valuable insight into specialist areas, outlining the skills, criteria and entry requirements needed, as well as the different pathways into policing, including degree routes and apprenticeships, alongside information about pay and progression.
As the visit coincided with ‘Operation Sceptre’ – the national campaign aimed at tackling knife crime – students also learned about the dangers of carrying knives, the legal implications, and where they can seek support both in school and within the community. A highlight for many was the opportunity to see a police ‘knife arch’ in action, demonstrating how metal detection is used in policing.
It was a fantastic opportunity for our students to learn more about the many rewarding roles within the police service and to engage with professionals working in the field. We thank Staffordshire Police for their time and support.
