Can you help our students gain valuable work experience?

We are seeking support for Year 10 work experience placements and would be very grateful for any help parents or carers may be able to support. This could include:

• Offering a placement through your own workplace or business
• Connecting us with local employers, organisations or charities
• Suggesting workplaces that may be willing to support our students

Providing meaningful work experience is vital in preparing our students for future education and employment, and your support could make a significant difference.

Word Count Competition winners

A huge congratulations to 7E1, winners of the Autumn Term Word Count Competition! This is a fantastic achievement to have earned in their first term at our school. As a Year 7 Personal Development group, they collectively read the highest number of words through the Accelerated Reader programme. Every pupil in 7E1 will receive one House Point for contributing to this total. Special congratulations to Zach, who reached an amazing achievement of over two million words, and to Allissiya and Ella for securing second and third place. An excellent effort from all involved!

Year 9 Options Evening

We look forward to welcoming our Year 9 families to our Options Evening on Thursday 2 February, 5.00pm – 6.30pm. This is an important evening designed to support students and families in making informed decisions about the subjects they will study next academic year.

Key staff will deliver a short presentation explaining the options process, followed by the opportunity to meet subject teachers, gain detailed information, and ask any questions. Attendance is strongly encouraged, as the choices made will have a significant impact on students’ future pathways.

If you have the app but are still receiving text messages, this usually means the app is not fully set up. Year 9 Progress Evening

Our Year 9 Progress Evening is taking place on Thursday 29th January, 4:00pm-6:30pm. This is a fantastic opportunity to meet your child’s subject teachers and discuss their current progress. All appointments will take place via video call using our online appointment booking system. Booking slots will be available to parents/carers from 8am on Monday 19th January and will close on Tuesday 27th January at 12pm. The system accepts bookings on a first come, first served basis. More information can be found in the letter sent on the MyChildAtSchool app.

First Super Draw of 2026!

School Arrangements for 12/01/2026

To support a safe journey to school, students are asked to arrive for 9.25am, with Personal Development lessons beginning at 9.30am. Period 2 lessons will run as normal.

This allows additional time for staff and students, particularly those travelling longer distances, to arrive safely. It also ensures the site can be fully prepared and made safe before the school day begins.

Students who need to arrive earlier than 9.25am should go to the dining room, where supervision will be provided. We are aware of the icy conditions within the local Burntwood area, particularly on footpaths and pavements. We again advise pupils to dress warmly and take extra care on their journey to school.

Thank you for your continued understanding and support as we prioritise the safety of our students, staff, and school community.

Weather Update – 09/01/2026

Due to unsafe site conditions and insufficient staffing, the school will be closed today. With areas across Staffordshire affected differently by the snowfall, we do not want anyone to risk travelling.

Home learning will be set on Satchel One (Show My Homework) for pupils to complete. Thank you for your understanding.

Burntwood Town Council Student Award

We are delighted to announce that Year 12 pupil Oliver received the Burntwood Town Council Student Award in memory of Stephen Sutton MBE over the holidays, along with £1,000 in recognition of his achievements and aspirations. First launched in 2015, this award honours Stephen’s life and achievements by supporting young people in Burntwood who have aspirations and talents they wish to develop.

A talented cyclist with Lichfield Cycling Club, Oliver competes regionally and nationally. Oliver has been cycling from an early age and recently became the junior regional champion in Cyclo – cross, competing against 85 people for first place! We look forward to seeing Oliver continue to compete both nationally and abroad!

We also congratulate Lucy, who is not a student at our school, on receiving the award for her outstanding swimming talent and wish her every success in her future competitions.

It’s Thankful Thursday!

To celebrate the first Thankful Thursday of 2026, Miss Devereux met with a group of students recognised for their work in the performing arts.

Ellie recently attended the Pauline Quirke Academy Northern Film Festival in Sheffield, accepting an award on behalf of her team for a film she and William contributed to – William appeared on screen, while Ellie worked behind the camera. The festival featured entries from academies across the North of England and the Midlands.

Meanwhile, Leigha, Ellie, Alana, and Elijah recently travelled to London to perform in the West End. They took to the stage as part of the cast of the Pauline Quirke Academy Musical, Across the Line, at His Majesty’s Theatre.

We are incredibly proud of all our students for their dedication, talent, and hard work in bringing their creative projects to life!
