Today, Miss J Devereux, Assistant Headteacher, met with pupils who had their work published following their fantastic entries in the ‘Grim Tales’ creative writing competition. They were presented with certificates and celebrated for this brilliant achievement!
She also caught up with Year 7 pupils Alfie and Lola, whose families shared the exciting things they got up to over the summer:
Lola attended Crystal Academy, tried Aerial Hoop, and now trains weekly! She also visited Peak Wildlife to feed the wallabies and Harry Potter World, where the behind-the-scenes magic inspired her imagination.
Alfie met author R.E. Brooker, discussing his dream of becoming a marine biologist and children’s writer. He was gifted a signed copy of her book and has been teaching himself manga drawing through online tutorials – blowing Miss Devereux away with his talent!
We are so proud of the creativity, confidence, and passion our pupils show both in and out of school.

This half-term, we’re running an Attendance Competition to recognise pupils who show great commitment to their learning by being in school every day.
Every pupil with 98% attendance or more will be entered into a draw. Each Personal Development Group has two Trick or Treat Bags packed with surprises to give away!
But beyond the prizes, here’s why good attendance matters.
· Children achieve more when they don’t miss out on learning.
· They build stronger friendships by being part of daily school life.
· They develop good habits that prepare them for future success.
Encouraging regular attendance not only boosts learning but also gives your child a chance to win a fun reward.

The MCAS app is essential for all parents and carers. It is our main method of communication and plays a vital role in supporting your child throughout their secondary school journey. We expect all parents and carers to be signed up to MCAS, so you don’t miss out on key information.
If you’ve just joined our school community, or would like a refresher, here’s some helpful information about the MyChildAtSchool (MCAS) app – our main way of keeping in touch with you.
Why use MCAS?
· Receive important updates from us as well as our weekly parent bulletin
· View your child’s reports and track progress
· Give parental consent for school activities
· Pay for trips and visits
· Top up your child’s dinner money
To make sure your app is set up correctly, please take a look at this parent guide.
We also have a FAQs section on our school website, which you may find useful.

For those who are new to our school community, Thankful Thursday is a chance for our Senior Leadership Team to celebrate pupils who have demonstrated our school values of Respect, Community, Tenacity, and Aspiration – or who have excelled in activities beyond the classroom.
Today, Miss Devereux, Assistant Headteacher, met with a group of Years 7 – 9 pupils who went above and beyond by completing optional transition work over the summer. From hands-on Science experiments and creative writing to Maths challenges, book reviews, and even visits to places such as Shrewsbury Prison, Twycross Zoo, and Agatha Christie’s house – their enthusiasm for learning has been wonderful to see.
We are so proud of our pupils for their commitment to learning and curiosity beyond school. A special thank you also goes to parents and carers who encouraged, supported, and in some cases even joined in with the activities!
If your child hasn’t yet shared their summer experiences, there’s still plenty of time for your child to pop in and see Miss Devereux or send an email to j.devereux@chaseterraceacademy.co.uk with what they’ve been up to.
