The month of October marks Black History Month. This year’s theme, ‘Reclaiming Narratives’, is a powerful call to action for Black communities across the UK to become storytellers, historians, and custodians of their rich heritage. As we celebrate resilience, creativity, and the strength found in diversity, our pupils will be engaging in special assemblies throughout October to honour this important month.

Learning by doing!

In recent Year 10 science lessons with Mrs Fenney, pupils have been engaging in heart dissections as part of their biology curriculum. This hands-on activity provides a valuable opportunity for pupils to explore the structure and function of the heart up close. By examining both the internal and external components, pupils gain a deeper understanding of how the heart works and its essential role in the human body.

Forest School is Back!

We are thrilled to welcome Muddy Hands and Feet Forest School back to Chase Terrace Academy! We’re looking forward to forest school this week, following the success of last week’s session, where our pupils embraced practical life skills, redesigning our allotment area with raised beds, choosing the best spots for planting. They even built functional tables from wooden pallets, which will be put to great use in future sessions!

These hands-on activities foster ownership of our school site and instils a strong sense of responsibility. We’re so proud of their hard work!

Exploring Mitosis in Year 11 Biology!

In recent Year 11 Biology lessons, our pupils have been hands-on in creating microscope slides to observe the process of mitosis! After preparing a vial with hydrochloric acid and immersing it in hot water, they added a garlic clove, allowing the root tips to soften for study. Pupils then carefully cut 1-2mm from the root tip to observe key stages of mitosis, such as telophase, prophase, and anaphase.

This practical activity is an essential part of the Year 11 curriculum and could feature on their upcoming exams. Well done to all the pupils for their hard work!

Extra-Curricular Opportunities

At Chase Terrace Academy, we take pride in offering an extra-curricular programme that enhances the educational journey of all our pupils.

Our extracurricular timetable is regularly updated on the school website, ensuring a fresh mix of activities each term. In addition to our wide array of clubs, staff members lead activities to strengthen bonds with pupils, and regular intervention sessions are available to support exam preparation. Individual music lessons, including singing, guitar, and piano, are also on offer!

Thank You for Supporting Our Coffee Morning!

Our Coffee Morning was a huge success raising over £500 for Macmillan Cancer Support! We want to say a big THANK YOU to everyone from our community who joined us today—it was lovely to meet you all and hear your amazing stories.

We also want to give a massive shoutout to every pupil, staff member, or even member of our community who contributed by baking or buying cakes and treats. Your support has been incredible!

A special thank you to our amazing Sixth Form pupils who volunteered their time—whether it was baking, greeting guests, serving refreshments, or running the tombola, we couldn’t have done it without you!

Thank you once again to everyone—this event wouldn’t have been such a success without you!

It’s National Teaching Assistant Appreciation Day!
