US Girls Program taster session!

We have had the pleasure of hosting a US Girls Taster Day at our school! Led by US Girls Ambassadors supported by Mrs Turner, Health and Wellbeing Development Manager and Mrs Denham-White, Health and Wellbeing Activator for Lichfield District Council, the session provided our pupils with a glimpse into the incredible opportunities offered by the US Girls Programme.

Here at Chase Terrace Academy, we are proud to have several US Girls Ambassadors who actively support members of our community whilst developing valuable skills, fostering networking, and building friendships. Pictured are Lola, Molly, Lucy, Grace and Gabriella- our ambassadors who are dedicated to upskilling their peers, creating a positive impact through taster events at school, and supporting weekly sessions every Tuesday at St Johns Church, Burntwood. The pupils have also achieved their Level 1 Safeguarding certification after attending a comprehensive training session at Erasmus Darwin Academy and are gearing up for Street Aid Training in March, focusing on emergency first aid skills applicable in real-world street scenarios.

This taster session not only provided a sneak peek into the US Girls Programme but also aimed to raise awareness and inspire other young adults to join the ranks of US Girls Ambassadors. Additionally, it offered our pupils a fantastic opportunity to engage in various extra-curricular activities, including arts and crafts, dance, painting, Jenga, cup stacking, disc throwing, and even the distribution of free lip balms during lunchtime.

Celebrating LGBTQIA+ History Month!

This week, our assembly focuses on the celebration of LGBTQIA+ History Month, which takes place in February. The aim was to shed light on the journey of the LGBTQIA+ community, the challenges they faced, and the significant milestones in the fight for equality.

The assemblies, led by Mr O Cooper and Miss S Lindsay, commenced with a powerful video highlighting the detrimental effects of silence in the face of discriminatory actions against LGBTQIA+ individuals. This set the stage for an enlightening exploration of the term ‘gay,’ tracing its origins back to France, where it initially meant happy and carefree. Over time, the term evolved into a slang word and was officially added to the dictionary in 1951.

Our pupils also learned about the beginnings of the gay rights movement, sparked by the 1969 Stonewall riots in America. This pivotal moment triggered a ripple effect, leading to the formation of the Gay Liberation Front UK in 1970, advocating against discrimination and putting forth crucial demands. During the assembly, pupils were astonished to discover the time gap between these demands and the subsequent introduction of laws – a stark reminder of the long journey toward equality.

Key figures in the LGBTQIA+ movement were highlighted, with one of them being Sir Ian McKellen. He is a prominent member of the Stonewall Foundation, which played a pivotal role in the fight against Section 28 of the Local Government Act, which sought to suppress the ‘promotion’ of homosexuality in schools and stigmatise LGBTQIA+ individuals.

As Mr. O Cooper aptly concluded, “Throughout the hardships mentioned during the assembly, there has always been a series of people who stand up for what’s right in order to make positive change.” At CTA we honour and respect the contributions of these courageous individuals. Together, as a school community, we come together to celebrate diversity and promote inclusivity.

Celebrating National Storytelling Week!

This week, our pupils have been immersed in the wonderful world of storytelling through audiobooks at the school library. An exciting assortment of books was on offer, featuring gems like England Lioness Leah Williamson’s ‘Ultimate Football Heroes’ edition.

Mrs. J Dutton, librarian, highlights the importance of reading by saying that “audio books are just as enriching as their traditional counterparts. Whether you turn pages or press play, the magic of storytelling remains timeless!”

Here4You Campaign

Last week, our pupils delved into a meaningful experience during their Personal Development lessons as they participated in the Here4You campaign, led by Roman Kemp. This campaign, curated for secondary school-age children and their families, is designed to illuminate the significance of nurturing mental health from an early age. It also provides valuable signposts to the abundance of help and advice available to young people today.

During the campaign broadcast featured influential figures such as Dr Puman, Dr Ranj, as well as notable personalities including Harry Kane, Rhys Stephenson, and Lenny Rush. Together, they brought to light the essence of mental health awareness, fostering a compassionate dialogue around the challenges our youth encounter. The show also spotlighted the six partner charities committed to providing support to young individuals, parents, and educators facing contemporary challenges.

Mr. D Inman, Assistant Headteacher, emphasised, “In nurturing mental health awareness, we empower our pupil to navigate the complexities of life with resilience and strength.” This campaign serves as a poignant reminder of the collective responsibility we share in fostering a supportive environment for our youth.

Launch of Darts Club!

We are thrilled to announce the grand opening of our latest addition to the array of clubs at Chase Terrace Academy- the Darts Club!

This fantastic opportunity is available every Wednesday lunchtime in the old gym to all Sixth Form pupils who are looking for a refreshing break during their busy schedule of exam preparations.

In the midst of the hard work and dedication our pupils put into their studies, the Darts Club provides a perfect setting to relax, have fun, and foster a sense of camaraderie among our Sixth Form community.

Exploring Trigonometric Graphs and Mock Exam Prep!

In today’s Maths lesson, with Mrs L Riddet-Smith, our dedicated Year 11 pupils delved into the fascinating realm of trigonometric graphs.

Our pupils are not just learning mathematical concepts; they are unlocking the potential to apply these skills to real-world scenarios. These graphs play a crucial role in science and engineering, serving as powerful tools to model various natural and mechanical phenomena such as populations, waves, engines, and electronics.

Meanwhile, in Mr. L Brown’s mathematics class, pupils are gearing up for their upcoming mock examinations after the much-anticipated half-term break. The focus of today’s lesson was meticulous examination of past papers to identify key areas for revision.

As the Subject Lead for Mathematics, Mr. L Brown emphasises the importance of strategic preparation by sharing: “Identifying key focus areas is crucial for effective revision. Our goal is to empower pupils to approach their mock exams with confidence and readiness.”

Celebrating our Swimming Stars!

Today, we had the pleasure of celebrating the outstanding achievements of our incredible pupils who couldn’t be recognised during Feel Good Friday due to assembly rescheduling. These pupils were nominated by Headteacher, Ms N Mason, due to their fantastic achievements at the recent county swimming trials!

Molly’s dedication to long-distance swimming shines through as she excels in the 800m and 1500m races. Not only is she a sports leader within our school, but Molly is also an aspiring pilot with dreams of representing the RAF swimming team. Training up to five times a week, she embodies the tenacity and commitment that make our school proud.

Mia’s preference for the front crawl is evidenced by her impressive journey from a qualifying speed of 53 to an astonishing 32.09 seconds! Her recent accomplishments in regional championships for the 1500m race showcase her passion for the sport. Beyond swimming, Mia is an avid runner, participating in Park Runs every weekend and engaging in country cross-country running.

Jack, with an incredible 0.15-second improvement in his personal best, demonstrated exceptional skill in shorter distance races. Juggling commitments as a member of the Scouts, Aikido enthusiast, and a dance team participant, Jack’s schedule is a testament to his passion and dedication. His commitment to various activities reflects a well-rounded individual.

Mrs. C Cain, Assistant Headteacher, commended these exceptional pupils, stating: “Their tenacity and aspirations make our school immensely proud. Their dedication to training and excellence sets a standard for all, proving that with hard work, anything is possible.”

We have been collecting valuable feedback from our pupils all week regarding our catering service. The Pupil Leadership Team designed a survey in collaboration with ABM Catering to allow all pupils to express their thoughts directly.

A link to the survey has been sent directly to all parents/carers via MCAS and we would really appreciate these being completed by each household, if your child has not completed a survey return already.
