This week, our assemblies have been centred around the poignant observance of Holocaust Memorial Day, a day of solemn remembrance that falls on Saturday, January 27th. As we reflect on the historical events that shaped our world, we are reminded of the profound quote, “He who does not remember history is doomed to repeat it.”

This year’s theme, ‘difference,’ serves as a powerful reminder of how crucial it is to respect and embrace diversity in our society. Failing to do so can lead to a tragic chain of events, encompassing hatred, identification, alienation, and ultimately, genocide. It compels us to consider the role that ordinary people, like ourselves, can play in challenging prejudice today.

In these contemplative moments, we are urged to recognise the potential impact of ordinary individuals, such as ourselves, in challenging prejudice today. Feel Good Friday Celebration!

Today, we had the pleasure of celebrating the outstanding achievements of two remarkable pupils, Niall and Logan, who have brought immense pride to our school by representing Burntwood in the county championships for swimming!

In recognition of their achievements, they met with our Deputy Headteacher, Mr. Newman for a Feel Good Friday celebration. Mr. Newman shared, “Niall and Logan’s tenacity in the county championships reflects not only their exceptional athletic abilities but also their unwavering commitment to pushing their limits. They serve as an inspiration to us all.”

Exciting Computer Science Learning Experience in Year 11!

In a recent Computer Science lesson, our Year 11 pupils delved into the fascinating world of sorting and searching algorithms by taking part in a unique and engaging activity. Each pupil was assigned a number to represent, and the class collaborated to apply the principles of the merge sort algorithm.

Mrs. D Lees, Subject Leader for Computer Science, explains, “Merge Sort is a fundamental algorithm that divides data into smaller chunks, sorts them, and then combines them to create an ordered list. It’s like organising a deck of cards by continuously dividing and merging the piles.”

The pupils began by meticulously ensuring that all the data was in order, employing the divide-and-conquer strategy. They split the data in half continually until each segment contained a single element. Subsequently, they skilfully combined the data back into lists, comparing the first index elements each time. This process was repeated until all elements were seamlessly combined.

Mrs Lees said: “This hands-on activity provided our pupils with a fantastic visual tool to comprehend the intricacies of merge sort. Witnessing the step-by-step process helped them grasp the concept more vividly. Our pupils are truly putting in commendable effort, showcasing their dedication to mastering these fundamental algorithms.”

We’re immensely proud of our Year 11 pupils for their dedication and enthusiasm in tackling challenging concepts. The merge sort activity not only enhanced their understanding of algorithms but also fostered teamwork and critical thinking skills.

Exploring Carpentry at South Staffs College!

Today was an enriching day for a group of our enthusiastic pupils as they embarked on a captivating carpentry taster at South Staffs College.

In this hands-on experience, our pupils dove into a basic taster session, immersing themselves in the art of carpentry while gaining valuable insights into the world of construction. Discussions revolved around upcoming open days and taster sessions scheduled by the college throughout February, providing our pupils with a roadmap to explore potential career paths.

Miss J Devereux, Assistant Headteacher, expressed her enthusiasm about the visit, stating, “Today’s visit has been nothing short of fantastic, encouraging our pupils to reach for the stars in their aspirations for careers in construction and carpentry.”

A special thanks goes out to Kev, who delivered an incredibly informative and useful session. His expertise added immense value to our pupils’ understanding of the possibilities that lie ahead.

Celebrating Our Sports Leaders’ Remarkable Efforts at the Staffordshire…

Today, our dedicated Sports Leaders took part in the Staffordshire Schools Boccia Competition, showcasing their passion for community and sportsmanship!

For those unfamiliar, Boccia is a Paralympic sport introduced in 1984. It involves athletes throwing, kicking, or using a ramp to propel a ball onto the court, aiming to get closest to a ‘jack’ ball. This sport is uniquely designed to cater to athletes with disabilities affecting locomotor function.

Our Sports Leaders volunteered with enthusiasm, playing a crucial role in setting up the tournament infrastructure. They skilfully navigated through the various tasks, ensuring that each school was in the right place at the right time. Moreover, they assumed the vital role of tournament judges, ensuring fair play and upholding the spirit of healthy competition.

As a school, we take immense pride in our pupils for embodying the CTA values of respect and community. Their dedication to supporting and fostering an inclusive sporting environment truly exemplifies the essence of teamwork, empathy, and shared achievement.

Drama Subject Excellence Launch at Lichfield Garrick

We are thrilled to share the success of our recent Aspirational Drama Subject Excellence Launch at Lichfield Garrick, where pupils from years 8, 9, 10, and 12 showcased their passion for drama and creativity.

The day was a celebration of collaboration within the JTMAT Community, bringing together pupils from Chase Terrace Academy and other JTMAT High schools. Our talented pupils immersed themselves in workshops exploring the intricacies of creating and developing performances, with a focus on script writing and acting skills.

Under the guidance and support of Jonny and Sophie from The Lichfield Garrick’s Community Engagement Team, the aspiring actors will reconvene to showcase their talents through self-written monologues, inspired by the core values of JTMAT and CTA.

Ms D Maymand, our Head of Performing Arts and Drama Subject Expert for JTMAT, said ” The Subject Excellent Launch was a huge success seeing over 100 primary and secondary school pupils come together to share their passion for Drama. At first the pupils were curious and a little unsure but they soon found courage to experiment and be creative. I can’t wait to see the performance poems by KS1 and KS2 pupils and the monologues by KS3, 4 and 5 pupils at our JT performance day in May”

Financial Education Assembly for Year 10

We are thrilled to share that Ashley Reeves from Four Oaks Financial Services has returned to our school to deliver a comprehensive assembly to our Year 10 pupils this morning.

After the insightful sessions with our Year 11 pupils last week, Ashley is back to provide our Year 10 cohort with crucial financial advice that will empower them for the future. In this session, he shed light on essential topics such as income tax, national insurance, and other potential deductions, including insights into student loans and workplace pension contributions.

Ashley also delved into the realm of financial fitness, cautioning against common pitfalls that lead to debt and emphasising the significance of maintaining a positive credit rating.

Miss G Clarke, Head of Year 10, expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “The session with Ashley was incredibly informative and interesting. It has set the stage for our pupils’ personal development by equipping them with the financial education they will undoubtedly need in the future.”

Special shoutout to Noah and Yan (Pictured), who actively participated by asking informative questions throughout the session. They shared, “We didn’t know much about finances before, but now we feel more confident about managing our money when we’re older.”

We believe that fostering financial literacy is a key aspect of preparing our pupils for success beyond the classroom, and we are grateful for the expertise and insights Ashley brings to our school community.

Important Notice: Changes to School Crossing Patrol

We would like to inform you about a change to our school crossing patrol, effective from tomorrow, Wednesday, 24th January.

Our school patrol (Lollipop person) will now be stationed outside of the nursery to ensure the safety of all of our pupils. The patrol will be present from 7:55 am to 8:40 am during school mornings.

These adjustments are aimed at further ensuring the well-being of our pupils during their commute to school. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we implement these changes to create a safer environment for everyone.
