Last week, our school focus was on Black History Month and this year’s theme of ‘Standing Firm in Power and Pride.’
In assemblies led by Mr Lloyd, Head of History, pupils explored the purpose of Black History Month and why it’s so important that we recognise and celebrate it as a school community.
The assembly reflected on the British Empire’s transatlantic slave trade – a topic studied in Year 8 History – before highlighting inspiring role models such as Ncuti Gatwa (the first Black and gay actor to play Doctor Who), Naomi Osaka (world tennis champion), and Thandiwe Newton (award-winning actress and advocate).
A powerful and thought-provoking assembly to support our month of learning, reflection, and celebration.
