Our students recently took part in the John Taylor MAT English Subject Excellence Competition – a media literacy project designed to help young people develop real-world content creation skills and explore future careers in broadcasting and journalism.

As part of the challenge, students produced written articles based on the theme “2026: Our Year Ahead.” They explored topics such as school improvements, predictions for the coming year, personal goals and aspirations, and changes within the local community. All entries were judged by BBC Radio Derby journalist Kayleigh Hall.

We are absolutely thrilled to announce that Heidi in Year 10 has been named the overall winner across the entire Trust – an incredible achievement among students from seven secondary schools. This is an extraordinary accomplishment and a true reflection of her talent, creativity, and hard work in English.
