We are thrilled to share the incredible efforts of some of our Pupil Leadership Team members who recently took the lead in our ‘Teach the Teacher’ initiative.
These fantastic leaders volunteered their time to attend a special teaching and learning staff training session, focusing on a topic that affects us all – climate change. During the session, they engaged our staff in enlightening discussions, shedding light on the basics of climate change and its real-life impacts on the UK.
Among the eye-opening facts shared were projections indicating that 5 billion people are expected to lack sufficient water by 2050, and an 18% predicted shrink in the world economy over the next 30 years. These statistics underscore the urgency of addressing climate change and the profound implications it holds for our global community.
The Pupil Leadership Team members also delved into the concept of climate justice, emphasising the crucial link between human rights, development, and a human-centred approach. Their discussion highlighted the importance of safeguarding the rights of the most vulnerable and promoting an equitable distribution of the burdens and benefits associated with climate change resolution.
Finally, the team explored the impact of climate education in the classroom. They emphasised how integrating climate education into the curriculum can not only raise awareness but also enhance overall learning experiences for our students.
Mrs. C Cain, Assistant Headteacher, shared her thoughts on the session, stating: “It was a fantastic ‘Teach the Teacher’ session, and it was truly enlightening to see our Pupil Leadership members approach this with maturity and tenacity, with the aim to make real change.”
We applaud the dedication and passion of our Pupil Leadership Team members for taking proactive steps towards creating a more sustainable and informed future. Let’s continue working together to inspire positive change and foster a sense of responsibility towards our planet.
