We were delighted to welcome the BBC Midlands News team to our school today to report on our activities for ‘Restart a Heart Day’ – a national initiative aimed at raising awareness of life-saving CPR skills.
As part of the project, our First Aid Ambassadors produced a short video explaining how to perform CPR, sharing the life-saving advice they have learned in First Aid Club. Thanks to this, over 1,200 members of our school community are now equipped with vital, life-saving knowledge. Pupils will also be giving live demonstrations at lunchtime today to share these skills with their peers.
As part of the BBC’s visit, the news team interviewed pupils involved in our First Aid Club, as well as those who took part in ‘Stop the Bleed’ sessions during Personal Development drop-down days. Pupils spoke about how learning these skills not only supports their aspirations in medical careers but also empowers them to make a difference in everyday life – whether through clubs, activities, or while out in the community.
We were especially proud to welcome back Rory Valance, a former Chase Terrace Academy pupil and now a student paramedic with West Midlands Ambulance Service. Rory spoke with our pupils about the pathways into becoming a paramedic and the many rewarding roles within the emergency services.
Headteacher Ms N Mason said: “You are never too young to learn how to save a life. While we hope our pupils never need to use these skills, we are confident that they now have the knowledge to respond effectively in an emergency. A big thank you to Mrs Benton, our First Aid Club leader, whose hard work made this inspiring day possible. We are truly grateful for everything she does to empower our pupils with these life-saving skills.”
We are incredibly proud of our First Aid Ambassadors for representing Chase Terrace Academy so professionally today, and of our wider school community for engaging so maturely with such an important life skill. A huge thank you to everyone involved in making today such a success!
