Recently, our Year 8 and 9 pupils took part in the Active Bystander Intervention Programme: ‘Step In, Speak Up’ – focused on tackling violence against women and girls (VAWG) in partnership with Lichfield District Council.
The session explored peer-on-peer abuse and the societal pressures that can prevent young people from speaking out. Through dramatic reconstructions, interactive quizzes, and flashback/flashforward techniques, pupils engaged with real-life scenarios and learned safe and effective ways to intervene.
The programme gave pupils the tools to recognise harmful behaviours, the confidence to challenge them, and guidance on how to support both friends displaying concerning behaviour and those who may be victims of domestic abuse.
