This week’s assembly was an inspiring journey into the world of leadership, aspirations, and the resilience needed to achieve our goals. Miss H Pickerill, Pupil Leadership Co-ordinator, kickstarted the discussion by shedding light on our incredible Pupil Leadership team and the broader theme of leadership.
Our pupils engaged in a discussion prompted by a video from YouthSpeak, where young voices resonated on what makes a good leader. It was heartening to see these qualities align seamlessly with our school values of respect, community, tenacity, and aspiration.
The theme of passion took center stage as we delved into a powerful video by Barack Obama. The connection to Pupil Leadership became evident: true leadership thrives in collaboration and community. Emma and Olivia (Year 11), our Head Pupil and Head Prefect, shared the team’s recent accomplishments, from introducing a new catering company to impactful initiatives like the poppy project in collaboration with Burntwood Town Council, Halloween fundraiser, anti-bullying, and Black History Month awareness, they’ve been the driving force for positive change.
Assistant Headteacher, Miss J Devereux, inspired pupils to ponder their aspirations, emphasising the purpose, direction, and focus they bring to life. She shared a powerful quote: “It’s not always about the goal, it’s about the person you have to become to achieve it.” Miss Devereux encouraged dreaming big, setting goals, and taking action, tying it seamlessly with our school value of aspiration. She reassured our pupils that failure is a crucial step towards progress and that goals can evolve over time. As long as one approaches life with tenacity and resilience, mistakes become invaluable lessons, and aspirations are undoubtedly achievable.
Let’s continue to dream, aspire, and work together towards greatness!
