Lunchtime Update

With the weather improving, we’re pleased to share that the school fields will be open to students at lunchtime from next week.

As routines become even more important during the warmer months, we kindly ask parents and carers to remind students to plan ahead during break and lunchtime. Students should use toilet facilities and fill up their water bottles during these times, as water fountains and toilets are available throughout every break and lunch.

To support safeguarding, wellbeing, and learning, students are expected to be in their classrooms and ready to learn at:

· 11:20am (Period 3, following break)

· 2:00pm (Period 5, following lunch)

Being prepared and punctual helps everyone make the most of the school day. Thank you for your continued support.

Basketball Update 

Our Year 8 basketball team continued their impressive run with a 26 – 14 victory over Cheslyn Hay Academy, securing their fifth win in a row.
The Year 10 team also faced Cheslyn Hay Academy, delivering a spirited and improving performance against a very strong away side.

Sixth Form football match

This week, our Year 12 and Year 13 students went head-to-head in an intra-school football match. After a highly competitive 3 – 3 draw, the game was decided by penalties. Both teams showed excellent finishing, determination and strong team spirit throughout.

On this occasion, Year 13 emerged victorious in the penalty shootout. Well done to all students involved for a fantastic match!

Sports Leaders support primary school basketball event

We are incredibly proud of our Sports Leaders, who this week led a primary school basketball event for four local primary schools. They represented our school brilliantly, demonstrating confidence, teamwork and excellent leadership throughout the event. Experiences like this help develop the leadership skills they will carry forward into the future – well done to all involved!

Book Club members review titles from the Young Teen…

We have been delighted by the fantastic turnout at our very first week of Book Club! Students came together to read and review titles from the Young Teen Fiction Award shortlist, and we are incredibly proud of those who chose to spend their lunchtimes exploring new reads (and enjoying a few snacks along the way!).

Book Club meets every Thursday lunchtime and is open to all students in Years 7–11. We look forward to welcoming even more keen readers as the term continues.

It’s Thankful Thursday!

Today we are celebrating some wonderful achievements across our school community.

Mrs Thombs met with Marietza, who has recently achieved a Grade 2 Merit in her piano exam. A fantastic accomplishment – keep up the great work, Marietza!

Mr Inman met with two exceptional students who were nominated for demonstrating outstanding determination and perseverance. They successfully completed 3000 metres (180 lengths) in their swimming lessons – an incredible achievement following ten years of commitment to swimming. Alongside this, their dedication to kickboxing has led to achieving a black belt. Truly impressive – keep up the amazing work!

Finally, Miss Devereux met with a group of talented students who entered a poetry competition, with their work selected for publication in the anthology “I Have a Dream 2026 – Where Hope Begins.” Congratulations on this outstanding success.

We are very proud of all our students and their hard-earned achievements!

KS3 InterHouse competitions

This week, KS3 students are taking part in Interhouse Competitions, competing across a wide range of sporting activities including fitness, swimming, handball, dance, basketball and orienteering.

It has been fantastic to see so many pupils getting involved and proudly representing their Houses!

English GCSE Masterclass

It was great to see our Year 11 students taking part in an English GCSE masterclass led by Miss Pickerill, Head of English. The session focused on mastering extract questions, with pupils exploring high-mark responses and gaining valuable insight into exactly what examiners are looking for.

With GCSE exams beginning in May, this workshop was a fantastic opportunity for students to refine their exam technique and build confidence ahead of the exam season.
