Congratulations to our Year 10 pupils!

We are incredibly proud of how our Year 10 pupils have conducted themselves during their mock examinations. To celebrate their hard work, we treated them to a special breakfast during Personal Development time.

Mr. J Cain, Deputy Headteacher, commented: “Whilst there is undoubtedly still lots of hard work ahead, including further mock examinations and BTEC deadlines looming in Year 11, the pupils have made a superb start to their GCSE journey in Year 10 and shown real tenacity in their approach to their studies.”

Year 12 Harkness activity

Recently, our Year 12 Philosophy and Ethics pupils worked collaboratively in a Harkness style lesson to plan an essay response about Wittgenstein’s Language Game theory. The pupils shared explanations of the theory and then critically assessed the theory in a debate, to help decide if the theory is a successful explanation of how we can talk about God.

This strategy allows pupils to take ownership of their learning and reflects styles of learning in higher education in a post -18 environment. Miss L Roach, Subject Leader, said: “The pupils are an invaluable resource to one another and it was fantastic to see them confidently articulate what they had learnt in lessons and share their evaluate insights.”

Transition Day

We are thrilled to welcome our prospective Year 7 pupils to our school for Transition Day tomorrow!

Pupils will spend the day with us, experiencing their first day as part of our community. We ask that pupils arrive at 8.45am and enter the school via the pupil entrance, where our staff will be on hand to guide them.

Please ensure your child arrives in their primary school PE kit, bringing a water bottle and a pen. The day will conclude at 2.45pm. We kindly request that parents/carers are considerate of our wider community when dropping off and picking up their children, and please be respectful with parking.

We can’t wait to meet our future Year 7’s!

Year 10 Visit to University College, Oxford

Recently, 14 of our Year 10 pupils had the incredible opportunity to visit University College, Oxford.

Upon arrival, our pupils had the opportunity to explore the iconic landmarks of Oxford during a brief tour. They were then guided through the intricate process of applying to Oxbridge, followed by an exclusive tour of the college. Highlights included visits to the library, chapel, Percy Shelley’s statue, gardens, and student accommodations.

Pupils also participated in a seminar led by an English undergraduate, where our pupils collaborated to tackle an Oxford University interview question. Mr. R Giles, Head of Sixth Form, said: “This annual event has become an extremely valuable experience for our pupils to gain a true insight into one of the world’s finest universities.”

We are immensely proud of our pupils for their enthusiasm and engagement throughout the day.

Pupil Leadership Team attends JTMAT Leadership Extravaganza!

We are incredibly proud of our Pupil Leadership Team members who recently participated in the JTMAT Pupil Leadership extravaganza.

They heard inspiring talks from NSPCC and Cancer Research, learning firsthand about the impact of their fundraising efforts. They also practiced their public speaking skills in a workshop led by Jane Heggie and even taught a song to primary school children.

They also participated in a “speed dating” exercise to share their fundraising initiatives with peers from other schools, fostering valuable discussions. The day wrapped up with cross-school team-building activities, with our pupils demonstrating outstanding teamwork and leadership qualities throughout.

Non-Uniform Day – Wednesday 3rd July

On Wednesday 3rd July, we will be having a non-uniform day to raise funds to create a display cabinet that will highlight our pupils’ achievements, as well as promote exciting House events and trophies throughout the year. Additionally, we aim to install a television to keep pupils informed about upcoming events and celebrate the successes of our houses: Brocket, Elk, Fallow and Sika.

To participate, pupils are encouraged to donate just £1 and wear their own clothes for the day. Our goal is to raise £1,500 to make this project a reality. Donations can be made via the MyChildAtSchool app.

Your contribution, whether through donation, sponsorship, or support, will make a meaningful difference in our school community. Together, let’s showcase and celebrate the achievements of our talented pupils. Thank you for your generosity and support!

Polite Reminder to All Parents/Carers: Car Park Usage Guidelines

We are pleased to inform you that our school car park barrier has been repaired. As part of our commitment to maintaining a safe and secure environment for all our pupils, we would like to remind you of the proper use of the school car park.

The car park is strictly for:

– Collecting a pupil from first aid;

– Collecting a pupil for an appointment during the school day;

– Attending a pre-arranged meeting with staff;

– Pupils who hold a blue badge.

Unfortunately, we have noticed an increasing number of vehicles performing U-turns on site, which poses a significant safety risk to both our pupils and staff.

We encourage all pupils to consider walking or biking to school whenever possible.

Please do not use the school car park for pupil drop off/collection or to drop off any forgotten items.

For those rare instances where dropping off your child is necessary, we kindly ask for your cooperation in being respectful and mindful of our local residents. This includes adhering to all traffic regulations and avoiding actions that may inconvenience or endanger the surrounding community.

Exciting News from Our MFL Class!

Following the letters our pupils sent a few weeks ago, we are thrilled to share that we have received some wonderful responses from the pupils at Notre-Dame de Bellegarde School. Ms C Horton’s Modern Foreign Languages class has thoroughly enjoyed corresponding with their new pen pals and have eagerly written back for the second time!

Our pupils have discussed their hobbies, favourite subjects, what school is like, and much more! This pen pal exchange is a fantastic opportunity for our pupils to practice their language skills and build connections with peers from another country.

We are incredibly proud of our pupils for embracing this cultural exchange and look forward to the continued development of these international friendships.
