As part of our World Mental Health Day celebrations on Friday 10th October, we are inviting all staff and pupils to wear one item of yellow clothing to raise awareness of mental health. Please note that full school uniform must still be worn.
This year’s theme is “Access to Services”, which pupils will be exploring through this term’s House Event activities.

The John Taylor SCITT is an accredited provider of Initial Teacher Training that offers;
• Experience of leading over 400 teachers through to Qualified Teacher Status since 2015.
• 40 Placement schools across the East and West Midlands, in your local area.
• Primary (3-7), Primary (5-11) and Primary (5-11 with SEND Enhancement) routes
• Secondary (11-16) routes in; Art, Biology, Chemistry, D&T, English, French, German, Geography, History, Maths, PE, Physics and Religious Studies.
• All routes can be offered on a PGCE with QTS or QTS Only basis.
• All routes can be studied either on a one-year full time or two-year part time basis.

Year 11 pupils have been exploring puppetry techniques inspired by ‘Strange Face Theatre’. Over the summer, Ms Maymand had the amazing opportunity to attend a masterclass with Russell Dean, the Artistic Director, at the Drama Matters Networking weekend.
Now, these innovative puppetry skills are being passed on to pupils to enhance their performances – supporting both scripted scenes and devised pieces as part of their BTEC Performing Arts programme.
We’re excited to see creativity come to life on stage!

Our Year 10 Combined Science pupils have kicked off their GCSE courses with a hands-on food testing practical! They explored which foods contain sugars, starch, fats, and proteins using a range of scientific tests: iodine for starch, Benedict’s solution for reducing sugars, ethanol for lipids, and Biuret solution for proteins.
It was fantastic to see the group approach the experiment with such maturity and focus – a great start to their GCSE journey!

We are excited to welcome parents, carers and prospective pupils to our Opening Evening on Thursday 9th October to visit our school and see everything that we have to offer.
Please note that the school day will end for all current pupils at 13:20pm ahead of our Open Evening commencing at 6pm. A grab bag will be available to collect from our dining hall at 13:30pm for all pupils who are eligible for free school meals.

As part of National Manufacturing Day, a group of Year 9 pupils visited local employer Filon Products in Burntwood. Founded in 1957, Filon employs around 80 local staff and serves customers in construction, oil and gas, highways, marine, transportation, manufacturing and other sectors across the UK, Europe and the Middle East.
On the factory tour, pupils saw employees in action, watched demonstrations of the work and equipment, and heard presentations from Senior Managers and Directors in roles such as Sales, HR, Technical Design, Engineering, Finance and Management. Feedback was superb, with pupils saying it really opened their eyes.
Mrs Poppleton, Director of Careers, said: “We are very grateful to Filon for giving our pupils this opportunity. It challenged perceptions of engineering and manufacturing, showing the wide range of roles available at every level, including Degree and PhD. Pupils left with a clearer idea of the skills needed and how these link to their studies, asking some insightful and well-considered questions.”
