A Change of Plan.
The planned return to school has once more thrown us a curve ball with the nation moving into Lockdown for a second time. Our foodbank supplies were depleted after our foodbank morning in December and we were wondering how on earth we could keep this initiative running. The Christmas period was spent sending letters to local businesses, creating new connections and contacting the Chase Terrace Community via our school Facebook and Twitter accounts. Yet again, our Chase Terrace family has already made the most amazing response to our food plea. Our children may not be in school, but a number of you have taken time out of your day to drop an anonymous donation just inside the double doors of our main reception. In addition, staff, from our school, brought in carrier bags full of food and dropped these off as we all returned on Monday morning this week. Thank you.
We would like to thank The House of Bread who made a wonderful donation, that Miss Vivian Collected on Wednesday this week. Her car was full to the brim of tea, coffee, rice, to name but a few of the items that were gifted. As we write this update we have just received an extremely substantial food delivery from the Vicar of St John’s Church in Heath Hayes. The support in Chase Terrace and its surrounding areas is really quite over whelming, but long may it continue.
Our first parcels for collection and delivery will take place on Friday 8th January.
Moving Forward:
Chase Terrace Academy foodbank is currently a necessity to our Chase Terrace Families, especially with the new Lockdown in place. Some of you may now be shielding or furloughed again and need a little extra help at this time. Our intention has altered as the government goalposts change. We would, if at all possible, like to run this enterprise through to the end of the Lockdown period. The success of this will be facilitated by the continuation of your kindness and generosity.
Below is a list of the basic items that we are in need of:
It is most important that those families who are need contact the school. We have a good selection of items and your calls are confidential.

Moving Forward into January 2021.
On Monday 21st December 10 CTA staff were involved in setting up and running our first open morning foodbank. Thank you so much to our site team for opening the school up early and helping us move our substantial supplies to the Sixth Form Common Room.
We were extremely apprehensive about this initiative as, up until this point, all food parcels had been delivered to our families in need. We were open for an exceptionally busy two hours to our shoppers and had a surprise visit from BBC Midlands News, which you may have seen later that evening. We would like to thank Chase Terrace Police and the Abacus Nursery who both took time to bring in extra donations for us to give out during the morning.
Your generosity provided enough food for approximately 70-80 bags of groceries, on the day, that were being put to fantastic use over the Christmas period. The additional gifts that you sent in and that our students wrapped, were an added surprise. Every single one made its way to a worthy home. One younger lady, I would like to quote, said, “you don’t know what a difference this will make to us… thank you.” What a transformation the Chase Terrace community has made this year to some of our more vulnerable families.
Moving Forward:
It has become increasingly obvious that the Chase Terrace Academy foodbank is currently a necessity to our Chase Terrace Family. In total we have supplied, with your support, nearly two hundred bags of food and essentials. We know that it can be a bleak period after Christmas and the pandemic is still forcing families into crisis. With this in mind, we would like to continue this venture until the end of January and then re-evaluate our family’s situations and needs.
As you can imagine, our foodbank is now extremely depleted, although we still have a lot of pasta and tinned soup! In order to continue with this initiative we do need to build up our stocks. We are therefore appealing to you all as a community again, asking whether you would consider sending donations in for a second time.
Donations can be delivered to the Dining Hall, as usual, once your child has returned to school. Alternatively you can leave them inside the double doors by our main reception if your child has not yet been able to return to school. We would like to send parcels out on Friday the 8th if that is at all possible as we know that they will be needed. This will obviously depend on the supplies that we receive of course.
We are in need of the following basic items:
Your support on social media has been invaluable and the ninety two shares on Facebook, concerning our foodbank morning, certainly helped to put the information out into the community. Please continue to back the initiative in the ways that you know how. We remain in this together and would like to thank you all for your continued support. Wishing you all a happy, safe and healthy 2021.

As parents will have no doubt seen, the Government has today (Thursday 17th December) announced a change to the arrangements for secondary pupils returning in January.
The timing of the announcement was very late, and has left little time to respond to the announcement, notify parents and reassure students. While the detail has yet to be fully given, from what we have been made aware, the following groups will return to school as normal on Monday 4th January:
During the course of the first week back, we will be putting in place arrangements for Covid testing. All other year groups are currently expected to return as normal on Monday 11th January.
We will update over the holidays as and when we get further details. We are very sorry for any disruption this causes.
The year 13 mocks will go ahead as planned in the first week back. Arrangements will remain the same for these.
For students who normally use school transport and are expected in school week beginning 4th January, this will be running as normal.
