CATCH Hub uniform and food collections

A polite reminder that today, Thursday 18th July, food parcels and pre-loved school uniform such as shirts, trousers and PE kits will be available for parents/carers to collect from our CATCH Hub. This is also available for families with pupils joining us in Year 7 in September. Please feel free to collect any items between 9-4pm. No appointments are necessary, please arrive at Reception,

Year 8 French Trip Update!

We are thrilled to share an exciting update from our Year 8 pupils on their French adventure! Pupils have had the unique experience of exploring a traditional artisanal bakery, or “boulangerie,” where they learned about the intricate process of baking bread in a wood oven. They watched skilled bakers in action and gained valuable insights into the art of bread-making.

Following the bakery visit, the pupils visited a chocolate factory and a snail farm. These visits have provided them with unique opportunities to learn more about French culinary traditions, practice their language skills, and step outside of their comfort zones.

Mrs. E. Scholes, MFL Teacher and organiser of the trip, shared her thoughts: “The trip has provided the opportunity for pupils to practice their language skills and utilise their knowledge to confidently order an ice cream and drink, engaging in real-life situations and enhancing their fluency and confidence in the French language.”

We are incredibly proud of our pupils and grateful to our dedicated staff for making this trip such a wonderful and enriching experience. Stay tuned for more updates!

Exciting Update from Our Germany Trip!

We are delighted to share an exciting update from our staff in Germany! Forty of our Year 8 pupils have travelled to the beautiful town of Boppard, located in the Rhine Valley.

The group arrived at the hotel before the kick-off of the Euros final (England vs Spain), and the hotel was kind enough to show the game on the big screen to the group. Despite the game’s outcome, it was great to see our pupils cheering England on.

Their first full day began with a stunning river cruise along the Rhine to the town of St Goar. After a brief ferry ride, the pupils visited Siegfried’s Musikabinet in Rüdesheim. A special moment included Mia’s birthday celebration with a rendition of “Happy Birthday” on the Kurbelorgel (crankorgan)!

Pupils enjoyed their evening in the park playing giant Schach (chess), boules and football – only kicking the ball into the river twice!

The next day, they journeyed to Cochem. After a challenging uphill walk, the pupils were rewarded with a tour of the stunning Reichsburg Cochem, a gothic castle offering breathtaking views over Cochem and the Mosel River. The guided tour was a hit, with pupils showing great respect and curiosity about the castle’s history.

Afterwards, there was time for souvenir shopping (including some water pistols now under staff safekeeping!). The day ended with fun at Cochem Moselbad wave pool, where pupils enjoyed racing on slides, wave pools, and the outdoor pool.

Ms. C. Horton, trip leader and German language teacher, shared, “Our pupils have been exemplary in their behaviour and attitude from the very start of the trip. It is incredibly gratifying to see them appreciate the area’s beauty and culture – they have been fantastic at applying their German language skills practised in lessons when making purchases, or when conversing with hotel staff during dinner; many have surprised themselves with their ability to make themselves understood.”

The adventure continued with visits to the Sesselbahn (chair lift) up the Hirschkopf, a tour of Koblenz, and today the thrill of Phantasialand Theme Park.

Preparing for a successful school year

As we prepare for the upcoming school year, we would like to extend our thanks for your continued support in raising the standards and expectations of our pupils. Your involvement and commitment are crucial to our collective success.

As we approach the summer break, we would like to remind everyone of our uniform expectations for September. A key aspect of our uniform policy is the requirement for pupils to wear black polishable shoes. Please take note of the following important details regarding acceptable footwear:

1. Polishable Black Shoes: Pupils must wear black polishable shoes with no visible logos. Branded shoes such as Nike Air Force or similar equivalents are not permitted.

2. Incorrect Footwear: Pupils who arrive at school wearing incorrect footwear will be required to work separately from their peers until appropriate shoes are worn.

3. Medical Exemptions: Any request for a concession due to medical reasons must be accompanied by valid medical evidence. This documentation should clearly state the need for alternative footwear and will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

We understand that you may sometimes see pupils leaving school in trainers and think that we have accepted that as part of our uniform. Please rest assured, this is not the case. We are actively working to rectify uniform issues with families, and pupils are given the opportunity to change or, where possible, provided with appropriate shoes to wear for the day.

If purchasing appropriate footwear is difficult for you, please contact your child’s year team so we can discuss the support available.

Thank you for your support in ensuring that our pupils adhere to our uniform expectations. Uniform helps maintain a sense of unity and discipline within our school community.

These sessions are open to everyone aged 18 and over from our wider community – you do not need to be parents or carers of children at CTA to attend.

These workshops will be led by our Director of Careers, Mrs. J. Poppleton, in partnership with Staffordshire County Council. Attendance is highly encouraged at both sessions to get the full benefit.

End of Term Arrangements

As we approach the end of the school year, we would like to inform you of the arrangements for the last day of term, Friday 19th July. Please ensure that your child is in full uniform.

All pupils will follow their regular scheduled lessons throughout the morning. On this day, pupils will leave the school site at 12:20PM. Pupils that are eligible for free school meals will be able to collect a ‘grab and go’ food offer from New Hall until 12:40pm.

Pupil Librarian Award 2024

We are thrilled to celebrate Androniki, Year 8, for being awarded the Pupil Librarian Award for 2024!

Androniki has been an invaluable asset to our Library, consistently demonstrating dedication, responsibility, and enthusiasm. Her hard work and commitment truly embody our school values.

Last Friday, Androniki was presented with the award by Mrs. C. Cain, our Assistant Headteacher, and received a voucher to spend at WHSmith’s as a token of appreciation.

Mrs J Dutton, Librarian, said: “Androniki has been committed to her role as Pupil Librarian this year. She comes into the library every break and lunchtime and helps with shelving and tidying books, creating beautiful displays and supporting her peers. She is polite, respectful, punctual and conscientious and it has been a pleasure to watch Androniki grow in confidence and forge friendships after joining CTA late in the last academic year.”
