Year 9 Drama and English collaboration

Our Year 9 Drama pupils have been working on performances around “An Inspector Calls”, a key text in the English Literature GCSE Examinations. This week, they’ve been using a ‘diamond 9’ exercise to explore the question: Who is most responsible for Eva Smith’s death? This cross-curricular learning approach helps pupils to examine the themes of social responsibility, character motivations, and key scenes from this text.

Ms D Maymand, Subject Leader for Drama and Performing Arts, said: “The strong links between Drama and English have allowed us to create a series of lessons that not only engages pupils but also prepare them for their English GCSE studies. Through drama, pupils can explore key scenes in a more interactive way, which helps develop their analytical skills.”

These lessons are further supported by e-learning videos, providing an additional resource to deepen our pupils’ understanding of the text.

Marstons visit for Year 10 Food Technology pupils!

We had the pleasure of welcoming Sami, a representative from Marstons, to our Year 10 Food Technology class. The goal of this visit was to build stronger connections between our curriculum and the hospitality industry, giving our pupils unique insights into the world of food preparation and service.

Sami led a “taste test” activity, where pupils were challenged to identify higher-quality foods. This hands-on approach not only engaged our pupils but also encouraged them to think critically about what makes food high quality.

In addition to the taste test, Sami shared information about various roles within the hospitality industry, broadening our pupils’ understanding of potential career paths. Many pupils remarked that they had not previously considered these opportunities.

A big thank you to Sami and Marstons for this valuable experience! We’re excited to continue exploring new ways to enrich our Food Technology curriculum and provide our pupils with practical knowledge and industry connections.

Exceptional Achievement Award – Nominations Now Open!

We would like to remind parents/carers that nominations are open for the JTMAT Exceptional Achievement Award! This award recognises outstanding accomplishments across a range of fields and is open to all JTMAT pupils.

The eligibility criteria for nominations is as follows:

– National or international recognition in any given activity within the last 18 months

– Grade 8 level/Diploma in music or singing, or a performance in a televised programme/film

– Fundraising for a charity, totalling over £5,000

– Success in overcoming adversity

Parents, carers and staff can all make a nomination using the above criteria. Just complete the nomination form sent to parents/carers on the MyChildAtSchool app and email it to subjectexcellence@jths.co.uk. A decision will be made within 20 school days, and all decisions are final. Make sure to include supporting evidence with your nomination. The deadline for nominations for this term is Friday 21st June.

If selected, pupils will receive a special gold pin badge award and a certificate of exceptional achievement during a meeting with their headteacher. Additionally, pupils and their families will be invited to a celebratory event at the end of each term, with a representative from JTMAT in attendance. This term’s event will take place in July—with details to follow.

We look forward to celebrating the exceptional achievements of our pupils.

Attention Year 11 and Year 13 pupils!

Your GCSE and A-Level exams begin this week! It’s an important time, and we want to ensure you’re prepared and ready to do your best. Here’s a quick reminder of some key information:

Remember that morning exams start at 9:00 am, so make sure you’re at school by 8:30 am. For afternoon exams, please arrive by 12:45 pm. The full exam timetable is available on our school website under ‘Exams’.

Pupils must bring the right equipment to every exam. The equipment list has been communicated via a letter on the MyChildAtSchool app. Being well-prepared means you can focus entirely on answering the questions.

Don’t forget that we are also offering pre-exam briefings for most subjects. These 15-minute sessions are designed to provide key information, reminders, and reassurance before you sit your exams. These are not formal revision sessions, so don’t worry—they’re meant to help you feel more prepared and less stressed. Morning briefings will start at 8:30 am. Please note, pupils arriving after 8.30am will not be admitted to the briefings. Afternoon briefings start at 12:00 pm.

Our staff will also continue to support you through guidance in lessons, Show My Homework, and after-school sessions during the exam period.

Important Notice: Bank Holiday

A polite reminder that this coming Monday, 6th May, is a bank holiday, pupils will not be expected to be in school.

The school week will begin on Tuesday, 7th May at 8:30am, starting with our Personal Development Lessons. Please ensure your child arrives on time and ready for the day.

A special reminder for Year 11 pupils: on Tuesday morning, you’ll be sitting your first GCSE Examination in Health and Social Care. Make sure you’re prepared and well-rested. Good luck to all of you!

It’s Feel Good Friday!

This week, for Feel Good Friday, we have some fantastic stories to share from our pupils:

Curtis (Year 7) met with Mr. M. Newman, Deputy Headteacher, after receiving a formal letter from the Police. The letter thanked him for his quick thinking and responsible action in identifying and reporting a dangerous object found at Chasewater. We’re proud of Curtis for being a role model of safety and responsibility!

Phoebe and Isabella (Year 7) met with Mr. J. Cain, Deputy Headteacher, to discuss their incredible achievements in Taekwondo. Both pupils excelled in recent competitions, and they often bring their medals to school to inspire their peers. We’re thrilled to have such dedicated athletes in our school!

Archie (Year 11) was recognised by Mrs. C. Cain, Assistant Headteacher, for his commitment to academic success. His German teacher nominated him for attending multiple revision sessions to prepare for his upcoming GCSE Examinations.

Well done to all our pupils for their outstanding achievements! You continue to make us proud.

Exciting Opportunity for Young Performers!

We are thrilled to announce that the Lichfield Garrick Theatre is launching a brand new Youth Theatre, and it’s coming to Chase Terrace Academy! These sessions will be held every Monday from 4:00 PM to 6:30 PM, starting on May 13th. Best of all, they’re completely free of charge!

This programme is designed for young people aged 11-18 in the Burntwood area. It’s a fantastic chance to work with experienced Theatre Directors, Writers, and other industry creatives. Whether you’re new to theatre or have years of experience, you’re welcome to join in on the fun.

Sessions will focus on various aspects of theatre and performing arts, providing a platform for everyone to express their creativity. It’s also a great way to meet new people and build confidence.

It’s Thankful Thursday!

Today we’re excited to highlight some outstanding achievements by our pupils:

Connie met with Miss J Devereux, Assistant Headteacher, to commemorate her selection to play for the England football team. Connie’s talent and hard work have truly paid off, and we couldn’t be prouder to have her represent our school in this way.

The CTA Theatre Company put on a fantastic show at the Lichfield Garrick’s ‘Ignite Schools Festival’. Mr. J. Cain, Deputy Headteacher, met with the group to recognise their creative talent and teamwork. Well done to everyone involved!
