Mural Design Competition in Partnership with Boney Hay Working…

We are delighted to share that Boney Hay Working Men’s Club has partnered with us to launch an exciting competition for our students.

As part of their 100-year anniversary celebrations, students are invited to design a mural for the club’s wall, focused on the history of the Burntwood area. The winning design will receive a £50 gift card.

The competition is open to students in all year groups, and we encourage everyone to get involved. Submissions should be sent to Mrs Van Daalen by Monday 13th July.

For support or further information, students can speak to Mrs Van Daalen in R23.

Upcoming careers in the Music industry talk!

We are delighted to be welcoming Holly Rolfe, a 22-year-old pop artist based in Leeds and originally from Lichfield, to speak with our students about careers within the music industry.

Holly will be visiting on Friday 26th June at lunchtime in the Chase Terrace Auditorium, where she will share her experiences and offer valuable insight into pathways within the creative industries.

Students with an interest in attending are warmly encouraged to take part. For further information, they can speak to Mr Burns.

We are delighted to recognise Louis’ outstanding achievement in the Junior Kangaroo competition following completion of the Junior Maths Challenge, where he has been awarded a prestigious Gold certificate.

This national competition encourages students to extend their mathematical thinking, develop resilience, and tackle complex problem-solving beyond the classroom. Participation at this level reflects both dedication and academic ambition and is widely respected by further education providers and employers alike.

Swimming to success!

A huge well done to all students who took part in the swimming gala at Cheslyn Hay Academy on Friday!

The team secured an excellent 4th place overall in the district, which is a fantastic achievement. Every student represented the school brilliantly, showing real determination and resilience throughout – particularly as many were not regular club swimmers.

A big thank you to Mr Barter for organising and running such a successful event.

Government changes to free school meals

From September 2026, the Government is expanding eligibility for Free School Meals (FSM). All children in households receiving Universal Credit will now be eligible, regardless of income.

Your child will be eligible if you access:

• Universal Credit

• Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999.

• The guarantee part of Pension Credit

Households may also be entitled to a free school meal if they:

• are in receipt of income-related Employment and Support Allowance

• meet criteria set out in separate guidance for families with no recourse to public funds

This creates two categories:

· Targeted FSM (household income £7,400 or below) – includes additional support such as Pupil Premium funding

· Expanded FSM – for all other households receiving Universal Credit

Please note: From September 2026, FSM eligibility will be checked annually, and previous 6-year protections will end.

We strongly encourage eligible families to register for Free School Meals as it can provide significant benefits for both families and schools. The link to apply for Free School Meals through Staffordshire County Council is: https://apps2.staffordshire.gov.uk/web/fsmweb/

Students visit Birmingham Pride’s Big Community Event!

June is internationally celebrated as pride month. Pride month is an opportunity to champion visibility and inclusion and stand up against inequalities still faced by many people around the world. It is a time for people to reflects on the progress made within the LGBTQIA+ community and celebrate individual freedoms and identities.

On Friday the 22nd of May, a group of pupils from Chase Terrace Academy travelled into Birmingham City Centre to take part in the annual Birmingham Pride celebrations.

Birmingham Pride is one of the largest pride celebrations in the United Kingdom and features a whole weekend of events and celebrations attended by over 75,000 people, the festivities are all started by the Big Community Event on the Friday – a family friendly event for all ages, situated in the main pride festival site.

The group, accompanied by Mr Cooper, Miss Roach, Miss Bennet and Miss Lindsey wore bright clothing, badges and flags for the evening – pupils used the journey as an opportunity to apply rainbow face paint and glitter to really look the part!

On arrival, the group walked through Birmingham’s gay village as the weekend festivities were being set up, witnessing streets being adorned with rainbow flags and bunting.

Pupils watched a range of vibrant and exciting performances by local activists, dance groups, choirs as well as drag kings and queens. A moving dance performance tackled the stigma following the HIV crisis of the 1980s featuring local drag performer, Twiggy. Speakers discussed breaking barriers and challenging homophobia and transphobia in modern society and spoke out for inclusion and visibility.

Pupils also took advantage of the fun fayre, followed by a range of street food offerings. Many pupils bought pride badges, flags and fans from the stalls on site that were selling all manner of colourful items.

The evening was a great opportunity to experience a significant cultural event and experience the diversity and inclusivity of the LGBTQIA+ community. All pupils had a fantastic time and thoroughly embodied Chase Terrace’s core values of community and respect and can’t wait to get involved again next year.
