We recently shared that the UK Government has confirmed that, under new legislation, all schools in England will be required by law to be mobile phone free during the school day. Evidence shows that a ‘not seen, not heard’ approach is not sufficient to create a genuinely phone-free environment. To support focused learning and promote the mental wellbeing of our students, it is essential that we minimise distractions and maintain clear expectations.
With this in mind, we will be introducing a new system to ensure students do not have access to their devices during the school day, whilst still allowing them to bring their phones for reassurance when travelling to and from school. During this half-term, each student will be issued with a lockable phone pouch, which will be assigned to them individually and must be kept safe.
Sixth form students will continue to be permitted to use their mobile phones and devices within the designated sixth form area, but not elsewhere in the main school building.
We are confident this approach will have a positive impact on our school community and support a calm, focused learning environment. We appreciate your continued support in reinforcing these expectations with your child and thank you for your cooperation as we introduce this important change to support their wellbeing.

We are proud to celebrate three colleagues recognised in the John Taylor MAT ‘Cheers for Peers’ awards for demonstrating the Trust values of Restlessness and Curiosity.
A special congratulations to Mr Lloyd, our first ever Values Champion. He has made a significant impact by securing Beacon School status for CTA through University College London, placing us among just 15 schools nationally recognised for excellence in Holocaust education. This achievement also brought the Quality Mark in Teaching Excellence, highlighting consistently outstanding practice.
We also celebrate Miss Blackham and Mrs Stretton, both nominated for going above and beyond in their roles. Miss Blackham was recognised for her dedication to our school production Into the Woods Jr, including running a costume club and giving her own time to support students, alongside her work supporting trainee teachers across the Trust.
Mrs Stretton was nominated for her relentless drive to understand the lived experience of neurodiverse pupils and find the right adjustments that make a real difference. She is constantly reading, researching and asking thoughtful questions – often in her own time – to ensure the latest insights are applied in our setting.
A fantastic achievement – well done to all three!
