Our values are really important for our school community. They help us structure learning and everyday activities to define who we are: a strong and loyal team.

Being part of our engaging community gives everyone a sense of belonging. It promotes support to others, enables us to share personal connections and perpetual growth of each other and ourselves.

We go beyond immediate and basic needs at Chase Terrace Academy. In the classroom, we create a sense of coming together with the common goal of learning and achieving. Outside of the classroom, we create unique opportunities for everyone to learn from each other and give support and encouragement. We champion that, to share, is to contribute to the community’s greater worth; promoting that we are all part of something greater than ourselves.

Respect the CTA Way!

‘The CTA Way’ represents how we work together to ignite the aspiration of all members of our community. We encourage and support everyone to be tenacious and achieve more than they ever think possible.

We are highly focused on achieving strong academic outcomes for all pupils through challenge and support, resulting in excellent progression into higher education, training and employment, enhancing both work and life prospects. Our inclusive ethos creates a well-ordered and highly supportive learning environment, where diversity is celebrated and pupils are treated as individuals.

Our values are focussed to equip pupils with social skills and tools, supporting them both now and in their future success beyond Chase Terrace Academy. Respect should be intrinsic in society, forming the basis of positive relationships and in providing social and cultural capital. We look to value and reciprocate this within our school community, inspiring everyone to ‘Respect the CTA Way’.

‘Respect’ means to understand, have consideration and show empathy to all. This can be as simple as listening and accepting others’ views, recognising that not everyone is the same, learning about cultures and celebrating differences. We expect pupils at Chase Terrace Academy to respect adults and their decisions, learning from their experience and trusting their judgement of how a good learning environment looks and feels.

We promote that respect must be earned, never demanded and it is the right of every individual in our community. We encourage a healthy, active and proactive lifestyle to learn self-respect: helping us all to work through challenges, build resilience and maintain our emotional health. We encourage self-discipline and recognise that respect for effort brings rewards.

Everyone is welcome at our BIG FAT QUIZ OF…

We are excited to announce that we will be hosting the ‘BIG FAT QUIZ OF THE SCHOOL YEAR’ on Friday 14 July 2023 from 6:00pm!

This event will bring us together as a community, to raise funds for the following charities selected by Brocket, Elk and Fallow:

Brocket: Mind

“1 in 4 people have mental health problems, most of us don’t get the help we need. Mind are fighting against mental health, they are fighting; for support, for respect, for everyone. Mind change minds across England and Wales by making mental health an everyday priority. By standing up to the injustices – in healthcare, in work, in law – which make life harder for those of us with mental health problems.

Mind support minds – offering help whenever people might need it by providing information, advice and local services. Mind connect minds. Bringing together an unstoppable network of individuals and communities – people who care about mental health to make a difference.” (Mind website)

Elk: LIMB POWER

“Limb Power was launched in November 2009 to engage amputees and individuals with limb impairments in physical activity, sport and the arts to improve quality of life and to aid lifelong rehabilitation.

In July 2014 Limb Power became a National Disability Sports Organisation, sitting alongside WheelPower, Cerebral Palsy Sport (CP Sport), Dwarf Sport, British Blind Sport (BBS), UK Deaf Sport, Mencap Sport and Special Olympics Great Britain (SOGB). Through this association and our work with the English Federation of Disability Sport and Sport England Limb Power help amputees and people with limb impairment reach their sporting potential.

Limb Power also run arts-based activities including confidence workshops and a photography club.” (LIMB POWER website)

Fallow: CTA CATCH

CATCH (CTA Community Hub) has been designed with the following aims:

• To enable all staff to access uniform, PE kit and equipment to distribute to pupils in need;
• To provide food parcels for pupils/families who need an extra helping hand;
• To provide opportunities for pupils to access appropriate attire to enable them to attend Y11 and Sixth Form end of year prom events.

We have been raising money for these charities throughout the academic year. The BIG FAT QUIZ OF THE SCHOOL YEAR will be the final chance to raise money and all members of the school community are welcome, including; pupils, staff, family, friends, etc.

You can purchase a table for up to six team members for £10; money will be taken on the door; however, tables can be reserved prior by emailing s.lindsey@chaseterraceacademy.co.uk, avoiding disappointment on the night!

Please ensure you have a mobile device in which you can play the quiz on and extra change to participate in some of our other fundraising games. People are welcome to bring their own snacks and soft drinks (alcohol is not allowed).

Respect the CTA Way: Community, Tenacity and Aspiration!

We are delighted and proud to be launching our new school values – Respect the CTA Way: Community, Tenacity and Aspiration!

Over the last few months, we have consulted with our entire school community to identify and agree updated school values including: pupils, parents, carers, staff and our governing body,

We recognise that values underpin our beliefs as a school and are essential in establishing a strong whole school ethos. Values are the link between deeds and actions; they help define our culture; unite our school community collectively; drive our ethical values and provide a moral compass for everyone.

Pupils have been fundamental in ensuring our established values will signify who we are, what we represent and what we believe in. Staff, parents and carers are united to promote positive behaviour, attitudes and support the personal development of pupils. Our Governing Body and Senior Leadership Team are committed to ensuring our school values are launched and implemented to show impact in all areas of our school. This includes: curriculum delivery, assemblies, communication and displays around school.

It is absolutely paramount that our values are not just words without weight, meaning or action behind them. Respect, Community, Tenacity and Aspiration will feature largely in our overarching principle of children fulfilling and exceeding their potential, both within their academic studies and also in their personal development. This week, to take the next step in this journey and as part of our launch, we will examine each value and its context in relation to our school community. 

CTA are delighted to announce the launch of Summer…

Research shows current school leavers are expected to have between 12 –15 different careers, with 40% of careers not yet created for current primary school age children. Many parents and carers tell us they find getting up to date information about the current world of Careers and Labour Market Information, difficult to navigate. Some parents and carers find having career conversations with their children challenging, as they do not know how to effectively support and advise them.    

We are aware that some parents and carers within our community have expressed an interest in looking at career opportunities for themselves, including returning to work from career breaks, upskilling, starting a business or a complete change of career. This can be a daunting prospect and many have said they are unsure of where to start and what support and advice is available to them.  

To support, we are delighted that our Director of Careers, Mrs J Poppleton, will be facilitating 3 Summer workshops. All will take place on evenings and will be supported by our wider partners, including employers and local colleges. 

Workshops will include: 

• CV building and making applications – common and up-to-date recruitment methods, including information about what employers are looking for when they are recruiting;
• Skills assessments – these will help you to understand your skills and what careers you may enjoy working in;
• Careers research and resources – exploring different career sectors and Labour Market Information for you and your child;
• Apprenticeships – what apprenticeships are available, including those for adults, what kind of careers are available and where can you find them;
• Courses – what adult courses are offered in the local area.  

All workshops will be held on Wednesday 21 and 28 June and Wednesday 5 July 2023 at 5:00 – 6:30pm. Everyone is welcome!

Year 10 Mock Examination Timetable

CTA invited to John Taylor MAT Pupil Leadership Extravaganza

We were thrilled to present invites to members of our Pupil Leadership Team at Chase Terrace Academy, to join the John Taylor MAT ‘Pupil Leadership Extravaganza’ in June 2023!  

A total of five representatives from our team will be attending the event. Pupils will work with other Pupil Leadership teams from across John Taylor MAT, which will include both primary and secondary schools. They will complete team building exercises, discuss their pupil charters and hear from external speakers about their leadership experiences.

Pictured is Dylan S and Caris D who met with Ms N Mason, Headteacher, to discuss the event and their roles as Head Pupil and Secretary. This was a lovely opportunity for these pupils to be recognised for the hard work they are putting into their roles and discuss the events the team have planned in the future.

Miss H Pickerill, Pupil Leadership Coordinator said, “We are really excited about the Pupil Leadership Extravaganza as it will be a great opportunity for our pupils to meet with other Pupil Leadership Teams. The event will facilitate pupils to be able to discuss and share how they make positive impacts within their own schools and communities.”

CTA kick off Pride Month at Birmingham Pride!

June is officially Pride month; a time to recognise and celebrate the LGBTQ+ community and the advances that are continually being made improving equality and futures for LGBTQ+ people worldwide. It is also an opportunity to give a voice to and campaign for those that do not benefit from equal treatment and are still unable to express themselves safely.

Pupils at Chase Terrace Academy were eager to get involved to show their support and recognition of the significance of the pride movement. A group of 23 pupils and 7 staff travelled to the Birmingham Pride Big Community Event on Friday 26 May – the Big Community Event is the launch of the Birmingham Pride Weekend and saw the festival site opened up to the public, featuring a range of events and performances showcasing the diversity and scale of the LGBTQ+ community.

The group travelled by train, and took the journey as an opportunity to get pride-ready with an abundance of glitter, rainbow face paint and different flags of identities from the LGBTQ+ community.

The journey to the festival site included a walk (in beautiful sunshine!) through Birmingham’s LGBTQ+ village, viewing landmarks such as community art installations, historic LGBTQ+ venues and the HIV AIDS memorial. Once inside the site, pupils saw performances from notable Midlands based performers and activists such as Ginny Lemon, Lady Bushra and Fatt Butcher (as well as exploring the funfair and street food)!

Mr O Cooper, LGBTQ+ Representative and organiser of the trip, said, “All pupils embraced the event fantastically, demonstrating the spirit of pride and representing the school and its inclusive values impeccably. Staff even received positive comments from members of the public, happy to see our pupils radiating so much positivity and pride.”

Celebrations will continue throughout the month in school!

Art & Photography Exhibition – CTA pupils are LEGENDS!

Chase Terrace Academy’s A-Level Art and Photography Exhibition 2023 will be held in the Learning Resource Centre on Thursday 8 June 5:00 – 6:30pm.

The exhibition will showcase the work of existing pupils and is a celebration of their achievement! The event is open to everyone within our community, including any parents and carers of primary school children who have a keen interest in Art and Photography. 

Mrs C Hartley, Head of Art and Photography is looking forward to opening the event and said, “We are very proud of the pupils and the high standard of work they have achieved this year. They are all legends! Please come along to celebrate them with us and see their fantastic work on display.”

All visitors should park on the main car park and enter via man reception, where staff will be waiting to greet you and escort you to the exhibition.
