‘Open Doors’ Balfour Beatty Vinci/HS2 Employer Visit – March…
A group of Year 9 and Year 11 students were invited to attend a ‘behind the site hoardings’ at one of their sites at Cappers Lane Compound, Lichfield. This visit demonstrated the off-site roles available across this sector and showcased the fantastic range of careers available in STEM and Construction.
During the tour, students were able to see piling works, earthworks and structural concrete works. They were given a mini bus tour, a presentation and met with staff and apprentices working across these wide range of roles.
They met with a Degree Apprentice who is into her 2nd year of a 6 year course studying Civil Engineering in partnership with Coventry University. She spoke about her journey as an apprentice, gave advice to our students and they were able to ask any questions.
Feedback from students has been superb. They felt this really opened their eyes to the opportunities available to them in this sector!
Mrs Poppleton, Director of Careers, said: This opportunity was incredibly valuable for students. It challenged students’ perceptions that Construction and STEM careers are not just about getting dirty. There are a huge amount of roles in this sector at all levels whether you are interested in Engineering, Law, Digital Design, Technology, HR or a Trade. During the visit, students had the opportunity to find out more about the variety of jobs available and ask as many questions as they wanted to.’

National Careers Week 2023
For students navigating day-to-day school life, the working world can feel eons away – and it’s tempting to put all thoughts of jobs and a career to one side. However, at CTA, we know that it is never too soon for students to begin planning their careers. The earlier you start, the better the end result will be. This week has been no exception as we have been celebrating National Careers Week across the school.
To kick start this activity filled week, students have been completing hand templates to contribute to a large display in one of our busy hubs and taking part in ‘Careers Ping Pong’.
Despite the wintery conditions, we have welcomed in to school a range of key speakers from different industries to talk to students about employability skills and the world of work. Students have also been working with their tutors finding out more about LMI and careers available to them.
With the launch of a new career platform with Year 9, the Science Department delivering the ‘Medical Mavericks’ resources to link careers to Science and live ‘Guess Who?’ activities with employers in Year 7 MFL lessons, CTA’s provision of careers education is certainly one to be proud of.
Carrie Cain, Assistant Headteacher, said: ‘‘engaging with employers is critical to emphasise the importance of transferrable skills from studying to a full-time job. The value our students can add to the workplace is so important, especially the potential they can bring in terms of new thinking and enquiring minds.’

Personal Development Program
Chase Terrace Academy is delighted to announce the relaunch of a new ‘Form Time – Personal Development Programme’!
We have developed and launched an enhanced ‘Personal Development Programme’ for Year 7 – 11 pupils this half term, ensuring equality of opportunity and to create an increasingly inclusive environment.
Passionate about supporting all pupils to achieve more than they ever thought possible, the programme is focussed to support pupils to become confident, resilient members of our community. Each week, pupils will focus on a theme relevant to their personal growth such as careers, internet safety and mental health. The programme also includes weekly target setting, providing pupils with the opportunity to take ownership of their individual progress and set weekly, personal SMART targets.
Working in Partnership with our Policing team and as part of this programme, PCSO Humphreys recently met with some of our KS3 students and raised awareness on how to keep safe within our local community.
Deputy Headteacher, Mr Newman, said: “Giving Personal Development the status it deserves is being well received by our pupils and we look forward to them embracing every opportunity the programme will encompass in the future.”

World Book Day 2023
World Book Day is approaching! On Thursday 2nd March, each department will be dressing up based around a book theme and it would be great to see students getting involved and dressing up too! Students are invited to vote for their favourite department. Visit the library to cast your vote! Book tokens are digital this year and are available to download from My Child At School.

Oxford College University Day
Recently, we arranged an all day trip to Oxford University within the Oxford College Campus. Mr Giles and Mrs Graham accompanied 15 students from Year 10 or 11 for a full day in Oxford where a lecture was given about the University, various subjects offered, entry requirements, student finance, grants, bursaries and general student life for students that studied at Oxford University.
The students had a tour of the campus and all it has to offer from its vast library to the beautiful chapel. This was delivered by current students studying at Oxford and they then sat in on a question and answer session with the students also.
Finally, after a very delicious lunch in the great hall which was simply breathtakingly beautiful to sit in the CTA students were invited to do a problem-solving session and partake in a philosophy and Ethics lecture. The CTA students did us proud by answering questions with great thought and solving the various issues thrown at them. It was a day enjoyed by all.
