Year 11’s Cook Up Knowledge in Food Technology!

Our Year 11 pupils have been revising in a very unique way! In recent Food Technology lessons, pupils have been brushing up on their food science knowledge by preparing a classic cooked breakfast.

Before they began cooking, pupils researched key terms like “coagulation” and “denature.” Then they put their knowledge to the test, cooking breakfast and using flags to identify different scientific processes at work. This hands-on approach makes learning both engaging and delicious!

It’s a fantastic way to prepare for the upcoming GCSE exams, and we’re so proud of our pupils’ enthusiasm and teamwork. Great job, Year 11! Keep up the hard work!

Turning Burntwood Yellow

From today, May 1st to 14th, we are supporting the ‘Turn Burntwood Yellow’ event to remember Stephen Sutton. We remember Stephen for his remarkable spirit and the tremendous fundraising efforts he made to help others.

A big thank you to our Sixth Form pupils for volunteering to put up over 300 bows across our school site. It’s a beautiful sight and a reminder of the impact Stephen had on the wider community.

MAT Business Excellence Award Winners Announced!

Today, we were honoured to have Jon Newbold from Hawkins Logistics and Louise Martin from Staffordshire Safer Roads Partnership join our Year 9 assembly for a special presentation. They awarded our talented pupils, Evie and Holly, with the MAT Business Excellence Award for their innovative design of a safe and environmentally friendly HGV.

This competition, judged by Hawkins Logistics, took place across all of the JTMAT schools, and we’re thrilled that our pupils’ creativity and commitment to safety and sustainability stood out. After hearing about their outstanding work, Louise Martin asked if she could personally present the award with Jon.

As a reward for their achievement, Evie and Holly received two tickets each to see “The Greatest Magician” at the Lichfield Garrick, along with an exclusive tour of the Hawkins Logistics warehouse in Fradley.

Congratulations, Evie and Holly, we’re incredibly proud of your accomplishments and can’t wait to see what you achieve next. Keep up the fantastic work!

CTA Alumni soar in Performing Arts!

Recently, the CTA Theatre Company had an amazing time at the Lichfield Garrick Theatre as part of the Ignite festival, and we were thrilled to reconnect with three of our Performing Arts Alumni!

First, we ran into Lily Evans, who was Stage Managing for the festival. Lily not only ensured our day ran smoothly, but also took the time to talk to our pupils about her career as a Freelance Stage Manager.

Next, we found Jamie Jones in the middle of designing a fabulous costume! He shared insights into his career path and what it’s like to work as a Professional Pantomime Dame.

To complete our lucky hat trick, we met Lou Checkley, fresh from his BAFTA nomination! Lou answered our pupils’ questions about his journey since leaving CTA and reminisced about his high school days.

Ms. Maymand, Subject Leader for Drama and Performing Arts, shared her excitement, saying, “It’s always such a magical moment to bump into our CTA alumni. I love hearing about their latest projects and performances, and it fills me with pride to see how far they’ve come.”

What an inspiring day for our pupils and a wonderful reminder of our talented community. A big thank you to Lily, Jamie, and Lou for taking the time to share their experiences!

Congratulations to our Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award Participants!

We are incredibly proud of our Year 10 pupils who completed their Silver Assessment for the Duke of Edinburgh Award this past weekend! Despite some rainy weather, these dedicated pupils powered through three days during their qualifying weekend and did a fantastic job.

Year 8 Progress Evening

We are excited to invite all Year 8 parents/carers to our Progress Evening on Thursday 9th May, from 4:00 PM to 6:30 PM. This is a fantastic opportunity to meet with your child’s subject teachers and discuss their academic progress. All appointments will be conducted via video calls.

To book your slot, please use our online appointment booking system. Details on how to access this system can be found in the letter we sent through the MyChildAtSchool app. The booking system opened at 8:00 AM on Monday 29th April, and will close promptly at 12:00 PM on Tuesday 7th May 2024. Slots are allocated on a first come, first served basis, so please book early to secure your preferred times.

After booking, you will receive a confirmation email with all the necessary information, including the video call link for your appointments. We recommend logging in at least 5 minutes before your scheduled time to ensure everything runs smoothly.

If you experience any issues with logging in or do not have internet access, please contact the year office for assistance. Problems with logging in usually occur when there’s a mismatch in the information we have on our system. If needed, we can update your details to help you gain access.

Year 10 BTEC Sport Leaders in Action!

Our Year 10 BTEC Sport pupils recently took on a unique challenge during their lessons. As part of their studies, they planned and conducted a warm-up session with a small group of Key Stage 3 pupils, providing them with a hands-on experience in leadership and teamwork.

Mr. J. Barter, Subject Leader for PE, had this to say: “Our Year 10 pupils showed great maturity and skill in leading the session, while the younger pupils displayed terrific tenacity and respect throughout. It’s wonderful to see our pupils stepping up and embracing the role of leaders.”

This initiative not only helps our Year 10 pupils develop essential skills, but it also fosters stronger relationships between our Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 pupils. It’s fantastic to see our school community coming together in such a positive way.

Exploring Poetry with Year 9!

Our Year 9 English groups have been annotating poems on the board and taking turns to teach the rest of the class.

Miss G Clarke, Teacher of English, commented, “It’s a great opportunity for pupils to expand their understanding of a poem by teaching it to their peers. This method allows them to engage with the text on a deeper level and helps build their confidence in presenting and explaining literary concepts.”

We’re proud to see our pupils embracing this collaborative approach to learning and can’t wait to see more of their creative insights! Great job, Year 9!

CTA Theatre Company Shines at The Lichfield Garrick School…

Recently, pupils from our CTA Theatre Company performed their original script at The Lichfield Garrick’s ‘Schools Ignite’ Festival. This involved three schools developing performance based on the theme of Chaos and Order.

Our pupils took inspiration from our very own Mr Lloyd, Subject Lead for History, setting a homework piece focused on The Tug of War between Chaos and Order throughout History. Our play included Khoas and Themes, the Gods of Chaos and Order, arriving to debate which historical figures should be included in this piece of homework. The play was written and created by the cast and supported by our Year 11 Drama Ambassadors and Max, our Year 12 Musical Director, leaving our pupils to inevitably put their CTA twist on history.

Ms D Maymand, Subject Leader for Drama and Performing Arts said “The whole process has been such a joy. We started with nothing but the theme and over several months this incredible witty dialogue, fun characters and incredible song and dances have emerged. The pupils took complete ownership and were adding their creative input right to the last moment. They were all so professional at the theatre completing tech runs and working with industry professionals as if they did it every day. Even as the curtain came down I was being asked “what’s the next play Miss?!” So, watch this space..!”

We couldn’t be prouder of our CTA Theatre Company for their outstanding performance at the festival. Stay tuned to see what they have in store for us next—something tells us it’s going to be amazing!

Get Ready for H82BL8!

Don’t forget that tomorrow is the beginning of our H82BL8 campaign which will be taking place until Friday, 10th May. This campaign is all about promoting punctuality and reducing late minutes across our school.

As part of the campaign, each form will compete to have the lowest average late minutes. The winning forms in each year group will be crowned based on their punctuality!
