Do you love reading? Do you want to make a real difference in a child’s life?

We are looking for volunteers from our community to support pupils with their literacy and reading skills. By giving just a few hours each week, you can help nurture a love of reading and boost confidence in our young learners.

What’s involved?

· Spending one-on-one or small group time with pupils

· Reading together and encouraging comprehension

· Supporting teachers in fostering a positive reading environment

Who can volunteer? Anyone with a passion for reading and a desire to help children thrive- no teaching experience required!

A Huge Thank You to Allports Group!

We are incredibly grateful to Allports Group for their generous donation of a 75-inch touch screen TV to our school! This amazing donation will make a real difference to our pupils’ learning experience and will be put to fantastic use across the curriculum.

Sixth Form Band T-Shirt Day & Bake Sale

On Friday 14th November, our Sixth Form students will be holding their annual Band T-Shirt Day and Bake Sale, raising funds for CRISIS at Christmas, which supports people experiencing homelessness.

Sixth Form students and staff are encouraged to wear their favourite old band T-shirt for a minimum £2 donation and to take part in the bake sale, which will run from Personal Development time through until the end of lunch. There will be cake boxes available so students can bring treats home, and a chip & pin machine to make supporting the event even easier.

There will be prizes for the best cake, best student T-shirt, and best staff T-shirt. In recent years, our Sixth Form has raised over £2,000 for this wonderful cause – helping to make a real difference at Christmas time.

Thank you for your continued support in helping our students make a positive impact.

It’s Thankful Thursday!

Today, Miss Devereux met with a fantastic group of pupils who completed our Library Reading Challenge over the summer holidays. Each pupil read five or more books, rated them out of four stars, designed their own book covers, and took part in a range of fun mini challenges! To celebrate their achievement, they each received a prize bag filled with a bookmark, a new book, and some well-deserved treats.

A special congratulations also goes to Chyna, who was recognised for her outstanding commitment to the scouting community. Chyna has dedicated six years to Scouting, learned to play in the band, and was recently awarded 2025 Scout of the Year! She also attended a scout camp in London and aspires to become a Scout Leader in the future.

Well done to all our pupils for their achievements – we’re so proud of you!

JTMAT Exceptional Achievement Award

A reminder that nominations for the JTMAT Exceptional Achievement Award are open until 4pm on Friday 21st November! This award is available to all pupils across the JTMAT Trust, and we have been delighted to celebrate the remarkable achievements of our pupils in previous ceremonies.

Secondary school pupils can be nominated based on the following criteria:

– National or international status in any activity (within the last 18 months)

– Grade 8 level/Diploma in music or singing

– Performing in a televised programme/film

– Fundraising over £5000 for charity

– Success in overcoming adversity

Nominations can be made through the online form in this letter. Please provide a short paragraph (up to 250 words) detailing the reasons for the nomination.

Successful nominees will meet with Ms Mason, Headteacher, to receive a special pin badge award and a certificate. Additionally, pupils and their families will be invited to an online celebratory event at the end of each term with a senior colleague from John Taylor MAT.

We look forward to celebrating the exceptional achievements of our pupils!

It’s Circus Time at CTA!

Preparations for the CTA Theatre Company’s performance of ‘Ernie’s Incredible Illucinations’ by Alan Ayckbourn are in full swing, and this week our cast took their skills to the next level. Dan from Short Scruffs joined after-school rehearsals to lead an incredible session on clowning and circus performance – from balance, timing, and physical comedy.

We’re proud of the enthusiasm and professionalism our cast continues to show. ‘Ernie’s Incredible Illucinations’ promises to be a production not to be missed!

Woodwind Workshop

We were delighted to recently welcome Bridie Bloor, a music instructor, to our school for an engaging woodwind demonstration and workshop. Pupils had the exciting opportunity to try out instruments including the saxophone, flute, clarinet, oboe, and more!

It was a fantastic experience for everyone involved – any pupils interested in joining our Music School can speak to Mr Reinikovas or Mr Burns for more information.
