We are delighted to have received a collection of free books on children’s mental health from Barley’s Book Barn, an Independent Usborne Partner, ahead of Children’s Mental Health Week (starting 9th February).
These books were generously donated through local businessman and estate agent James Clelland, and we are so grateful to have been one of only two secondary schools selected to receive them.
Our sincere thanks to James for this thoughtful and valuable gift to support our students’ wellbeing. Students can find the books in the Library, located in the Mental Health (MH) section.

Nominations for the JTMAT Exceptional Achievement Award for the Spring/Summer term are now open until 4pm on Friday 19th June! This award is available to all pupils across the JTMAT Trust, and we have been delighted to celebrate the remarkable achievements of our pupils in previous ceremonies.
Secondary school pupils can be nominated based on the following criteria:
– National or international status in any activity (within the last 18 months)
– Grade 8 level/Diploma in music or singing
– Performing in a televised programme/film
– Fundraising over £5000 for charity
– Success in overcoming adversity
Parents, carers, staff, and peers can submit nominations through the online form sent out in the letter via the MyChildAtSchool App. Please provide a short paragraph (up to 250 words) detailing the reasons for the nomination.
Successful nominees will meet with Ms Mason, Headteacher, to receive a special pin badge award and a certificate. Additionally, pupils and their families will be invited to an online celebratory event taking place in July with Mr M Donoghue, CEO of the John Taylor MAT.
We look forward to celebrating the exceptional achievements of our pupils!

Our Year 8 basketball produced a superb performance to secure a 42 – 18 victory over Cannock Chase High School in their game last night. With several players making their debut, the whole team worked hard, played with great teamwork, and represented the school exceptionally well throughout the match.
The team are back in action on Tuesday 10th February for their first game in the Jr NBA League – best of luck!

Our Year 9 pupils recently took part in a Next Gen day led by the Inspirational Learning Group. During an exciting engineering challenge, pupils had just 90 seconds to transfer popcorn kernels between tubs without entering the “toxic zone.” The activity offered valuable insight into engineering pathways while developing teamwork and problem -solving skills.

Our A-Level Chemistry students have been busy in the lab! They have been analysing the composition of common over-the-counter pain medications using Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC). This technique allowed them to separate the different components on a specially coated plate, which can be visualised under UV light. The students also used TLC to assess the purity of the aspirin they synthesised earlier in the year, applying their practical skills to real-world applications of chemistry.
