Assembly Focus: British Values

This week, our assemblies were led by Mr. D. Inman (Assistant Headteacher) and focused on the importance of British Values. Pupils were greeted by the Grenadier Guards and the Fron Male Voice Choir singing Land of Hope and Glory.

During the assembly, we explored the five key British Values: Rule of Law, Individual Liberty, Democracy, Mutual Respect and Tolerance.

Mr. Inman highlighted how each of these values helps us contribute positively to our school community, linking them to our own school values of Respect, Community, Tenacity, and Aspiration.

World Mental Health Day Celebration

Today, we are proud to celebrate World Mental Health Day at our school! To promote mental health awareness and foster a supportive culture, our Senior Leadership Team hand-delivered a cupcake to each staff member.

Mrs H Phillips, HR Assistant, said: “In keeping with this year’s theme of workplace mental health, we have marked World Mental Health Day by asking staff to check in with each other and have a conversation around mental health. We have also taken the opportunity to remind staff about support and resources available to them and the importance of self-care”.

We understand that mental health challenges are a part of everyday life, and today we want to take a moment to emphasise the importance of seeking support and looking after one another.

World Mental Health Day 2024

In recognition of World Mental Health Day, our pupils and staff were invited to wear an item of yellow alongside their school uniform to raise awareness of young people’s mental health and our shared responsibility to support it.

A special mention goes to Mrs T Benton’s Personal Development Group, who crafted beautiful yellow friendship bracelets to show their solidarity and support.

Did you know?

– 1 in 6 children aged 5 to 16 were identified as having a probable mental health problem as of July 2020.

– Less than 1 in 3 young people with a mental health condition receive NHS care and treatment.

– 80% of young people with mental health needs agree that the Covid-19 pandemic has worsened their mental health.

Nominations Now Open for the JTMAT Exceptional Achievement Award!

We are excited to announce that nominations for the JTMAT Exceptional Achievement Award are now open! This award is available to all pupils across the JTMAT Trust, and we have been delighted to celebrate the remarkable achievements of our pupils in previous ceremonies.

Secondary school pupils can be nominated based on the following criteria:

– National or international status in any activity (within the last 18 months)

– Grade 8 level/Diploma in music or singing

– Performing in a televised programme/film

– Fundraising over £5000 for charity

– Success in overcoming adversity

Parents, carers, staff, and peers can submit nominations through the online form sent out in this letter. Please provide a short paragraph (up to 250 words) detailing the reasons for the nomination.

Successful nominees will meet with their headteacher to receive a special pin badge award and a certificate. Additionally, pupils and their families will be invited to an online celebratory event at the end of each term with a senior colleague from John Taylor MAT.

We look forward to celebrating the exceptional achievements of our pupils!

Year 7 Maths Stars!

Our Year 7 pupils have been excelling in their Maths lessons recently! They’ve been learning to collect like terms in an unusual way – using biscuits! As part of the challenge, they even had to guess how many biscuits Mrs. Riddet-Smith had hidden in her bag—all by using algebraic expressions!

Wake up Wednesday!

Every Wednesday, we receive valuable resources from the National College to help support parents/carers and educators in keeping children safe.

This week’s focus is on Fire Safety, with key tips and practical advice to help protect children—especially important as Bonfire Night approaches! Every year, thousands of accidents in the UK result from improper handling of fireworks and overlooking fire safety measures.

Year 7 Tutor Evening

We’re excited to invite Year 7 parents and carers to our Year 7 Tutor Evening on Thursday 24th October 2024, from 4pm to 6.30pm. This is a fantastic opportunity to meet with your child’s Personal Development Tutor, discuss how they’ve settled into life at Chase Terrace Academy, and ask any questions you might have.

Staff will also be available to help with My Child at School (MCaS), Show My Homework, and Accelerated Reader, so you can track your child’s progress and support their reading journey. Representatives from the SEND Department and Pastoral Year Team will also be present.

We use an online appointment booking system for Tutor Evenings. The booking system will be made available to parents/carers from 9am on Thursday 10th October and will close on Monday 21st October at 12pm. There is only availability for one appointment for each pupil rather than one appointment for each parent/carer. Please refer to the recent letter sent via the MyChildAtSchool app for the booking link.
